How does the new cheetah fly with 582 / Jab motors- anyone?? This is in Gauteng so at alltitude.

Why don't you pop over to Alexei at Rainbow and get them to give you a demo flight?

582 no probelms. Did convex on 582 at Panorama. 912 is 'nice" but 582 does just fine...

Ditto, get a flight from Rainbow.

I flew with someone 2 weekends ago Springs -> Aeroden @ harties and around JHB.

My opinion, it flys fine, for its mission.

It is like a 503 trike on the highveld.

One up you won't even notice it an absolute pleasure.

2 up and lots of fuel you will need to FLY her, anticipate wind, hills, turbulence, think ahead etc, just like with a 503 trike.

It is the perfect starter airplane, not to much power, simple, light, low cost and you WILL learn to FLY her.

The occational outing far from home should be OK, but definetely not the regular long tourer for 2 people.

Determine your mission and ask again...

Thanks guys - that answers my questions. I will probably go 912 if I can afford it. If not I will make do with 582 or look a little further for a 2nd hand one.

Update,

This past weekend a 582 Cheetah joined us from JHB to Margate for the airshow, afterwards we came back up to coast to Sodwana and then back inland to JHB.

The 582 Cheetah did a display at the airshow, even though the commentator though it had a 912 in

2 People full fuel, and it managed all the way without a glitch. They flew a bit slower than us, and used more fuel being a 2 stroke, but they did not have any problems at all.

Just to prove the occasional long Xcountry flight IS possible in it!

It is the perfect first little airplane, something you can grow into as your experience grow, then later you can upgrade when the money is there and you want to stretch your wings more often.

I do 90-120nm trips in mine very often!

You get time to check the scenery.... and fly of course!

I bought a neat used Cheetah with a new 582 motor in Dec. The 582 is sufficient for this ultralight at our altitude which is 3500 ft. I flew it in Jhb and it was still respectable at 5000 ft. I cruise between 75 and 94 Mph.

Have done a 4 hour cross country trip in it - great fun!!

I think the 912 is a bit overkill but if you can afford it..........

I also own a Cessna 172 but trust me the Cheetah is a lekker second little aeroplane!!

I'll land my Cheetah in shitty weather and wind where the other okes are 10-15knots down on cross component!

A 912 (new) and properly inhibited is going 'cheap' at Cato (includes exhaust, fuel pump etc.).
