NEWBEE - St Francis Bay- Eastern Cape

Postby RV4ker (RIP) » Tue Jan 29, 2008 1:49 pm

Got this email from Brett. I not really qualified to comment. Maybe Skybound or other St F or PE based boys can help...
Hi

I have been looking at the micro light web pages for months now. Still finding new articles all the time. Been looking at “the good the bad and the ugly”, and like all sports there are ups and down. Glad to see real concern and communication, to and from everybody.

We live in St Francis Bay- Eastern Cape. Looking to fly to Plett / Knysna and to P.E., and do not know if this is the correct thing.

A few questions:
Where are you permitted to land / take-off from? Air park – vacant land (road side) – small holding on out skirts of P.E., can get dad to mow grass before we land-only recognised areas?
Storage of trike / wing, does this fit in a double garage, with motor vehicles / or warehouse (this gets hot during the day- material wing getting stressed)?
Where would the nearest school of learning be? St Francis Bay/ Humansdorp (P.E.)?
Would you recommend a school / area of learning? Coastal flying? (Weather unpredictable.)

Later: will look to purchase a mode of airie after attaining Mpl?

Please give detail / tell some stories of fixed wing to micro light. Flew with grand father many years back, when I was a kid.

I am in the same scenario as a friend helicopter pilot, he was sceptical that the helicopter could fall out of the sky – then he was told about auto rotation, that sold him.

I am looking for the same. Glide ratio’s ect. Saw a motorised glider in Tarkastad (Blanco farm) and this sparked the interest again.

Please pass this on to one or two people, as I would like further info.
Many thanks for your time.
Regards,
Brett
