Prooving flight authority question

Postby Morph » Wed Dec 19, 2007 12:03 pm

I am a bit confused with my Proving Flight Authority

at the top in Bold it says valid for 40 hours or 6 months

the waffle says something like
the pilot shall stay within 100km of Morning Star
Fly 25 hours of proving flights in accordance with part 24 and ...

Now is it 40 hours, or 25hours?

I don't have it with me so I can remember the exact wording but this is the just of it

Most are 40hrs.

If you have a concession you only fly 25 hrs. (Usually given to proven design with proven engine and prop combination.) I got 10hrs as the RV had flown before and had certified eng and prop combination.

I brought the copy in with me today and this is exactly what it says

Re: PROVING FLIGHT AUTHORITY TO FLY
EXPIRY DATE: 2008/03/20 or 40 AIRFRAME HOURS

1. Details of applicant
2. Details of plane

3. This aircraft .........waffle waffle

4. In the interest of the public and aviation safety, the applicant is required to comply with the following:
4.1 The aircraft is privately employed and undergoing a proving flight within 100km radius from MORNINGSTAR only
4.2 re third party option.....
4.3 a total of 25 hours are flown in accordance with requirements of Part 24 and Part 94 of the Civil Aviation Regulation, 1997, as amended and the aircraft is servicable before each flight and is correctly certified in the applicable airframe log book.

Maybe it's because my motor has already flown 125 hours in another plane and is thus considered to have proven itself :?: :?

The reason this is critical to me is if I get the call to move up to JHB early next year I can fly it instead of trailer it up to jozy

12.3 hours and counting

2 things

1. I would guess the 25hrs is applicable and that the 40 hrs at the top is a typo as result of using standard letter.

2. You can get special permission to move the aerie (Ie Ct to Jhb). Don't know exact procedure, but I was told you fill in form for special Auth (obviously) pay a fee and off you go. No pax allowed and 1 point to point relocation flight only. (Can't get one every so often to go). One was arranged for me for the KR to take it to EAA some years back, but was not able to make the flight. Chat to Andre S. He was most helpful at the time. Trailer is not an option and it a lekka flight if WX plays along.

I would go with that as 912 is a known (reliable) engine on a known airframe with a known prop combination, thus not experimental. (IE it not a home made VW with home made prop on 1ce off airframe design). Proving flight is thus to prove your installation of known components is OK rather than proving that it is a workable combination.
