who are you with?
I was with Discovery and recently changed over to Bestmed. I had to specify aviation and they are happy on condition I am licenced, my Flight medical is valid and the plane is licenced.

Medical not great problem. I am covered with CAMAF, merely disclosed my flying
Lets talk about DISABITY INSURANCE or Income protection
Most pilots might have a death benifit but what about Disability due to plane accident? How will you continue to have a income?
I am covered - Got it in writing

From the Discovery website:-
Pilots
A pilot is a person who flies aircraft (e.g. helicopter, aeroplane).
What? When and Why? Paid from...
Cover for pilots We'll pay for claims for healthcare services related to injuries sustained while flying an aircraft according to Discovery Health rules and policies.
Please note:
To be covered, you must have an appropriately recognised qualification for operating your aircraft.
If your injury is work-related (i.e. sustained on duty), you must submit your claim to COID (Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases) and notify us.
We'll pay for healthcare services related to injuries sustained while flying an aircraft from:
the Hospital Benefit if the patient is admitted to hospital and we have authorised it
or
from your day-to-day benefits for non-hospital procedures and consultations, as long as you have funds available.

Morning.
Reading the above on "medical aid to pay or not to pay" made me realise
that i don't know if im covered or not
Phoned them up....you guessed it ...dangerous sports are not covered.
After a heated debate i was phoned back to say that i am covered as long
as it is not a professional sport. In there terms "a paid profession".
I am in the medical profession and want to give a reality check...
1)asume you crash and don't walk away, alive but broken
1.1)Ambulance evac. from scene if not to serious R 2000.00
1.2)Helicopter evac. from scene head/spine R15000 P/H (DISTANCE
1.3)Casualty fee + scan/mri depending R2000 AND UP
1.4) theatre and icu/hospital stay depending from R2000 per day.
As you can see from the above costs mimms tariffs, just on your medical expenses it can set you back anywhere from R50 000 -R700 000
please check with your medical aids.
Cheers
WOODY

Hi
I certainly don't work for Liberty nor get any kick back for them for saying this but they are one of the few bigger ones that cover you at no extra cost - you don't even have to specify it and they cheaper than Discovery. I am with them and have put a lot of claims through them with my son and not had any hassels. Also have my life and disability insurance with them which is covered for microlights, the loading will last 10 years at which stage if you still into flying they no longer load you
A couple of the guys here are brokers for them - like Rob who you can pm for more info
