Conspiracy theory - what's wrong with Avgas

This year has been a horrific year for aviation. Apart from Gareth's accident and the one that Violavia was killed in in Saldanha the rest of the crashes have been GA type aircraft and a cursory glance shows a high percentage of engine related causes.
Now here comes the conspiracy theory part. For quite a few years before the banning of leaded fuels, BP had already replaced leaded fuel with the Lead Replacement Petroleum (LRP) and not told anybody. ( I got this juicy bit of information from one of their product managers who addressed our Bike club regarding the safety of LRP).
The other night we had a talk at our Microlight Club meeting regarding the effects of using non-leaded fuel in GA engines and how the valves require lead for lubrication.
At this time a thought struck me, have the petroleum companies not quietly replaced highly leaded Avgas 103 with a LRP replacement and not told anybody?
