Help to start an airstrip.

Hi all,

Help to satisfy my curiosity.

I would like to establish / buy / convert farm/ partner an airstrip - 800 metre, preferably on the South Coast.

Ideally for private recreation/ flipping / invite only, with the option of building B/B, self catering holiday chalets on site, or near proximity to hangars.

Hell, while we're at it, chuck in a sea view, Nacadamian trees and a sign that says, " Danger - Poisonous snake breeding project"

Anyone got advise with regards to procedure, obtion, obstacles e.t.c.?

Ideally, acquire shortly, chew through bureaucracy for a year and have ready within 3 - 4 years.

Thanks,

I would say as long as you are clear of controlled airspace and do not intend to licence the field, there is not a helluva lot of formalities.

In a non licenced field, I would guess your biggest 'obstacle' would be the neighbours. If they are close, would get them to sign some document agreeing to the airfield so as the ensure that you dont have them on your doorstep when aircraft begin operating from the airstrip.

If you plan on licencing the strip, then I think there are plenty more hoops to jump through, and annual inspections too.

Worth mentioning too, the preparation of the strip itself is not as easy as just pulling one grader through. It takes quite a bit of preparation to get a decent surface and does require some maintenance to keep it in good shape.

Call it a fire break and there is no red tape...

Agree with skybound. If it a small plot type set-up, try not to piss the neighbours off. They can make life very hard. If it a bigger farm type set-up, do whatever you like.
