Flying Away From the Cabbage Patch

Does anyone know of a strip close to Scottburgh. I fly a fixed wing and probably need at least 500m (not yet an expert!).

Nothing on EasyPlan except a strip at Hibberdene (too far south I guess?)

Anything closer than Margate or Virginia would be fine but Hibberdene no longer exists. Although there are still sign posts on the road indicating an airfield, the actual strip is overgrown. Thanks anyway.

I did see a windsock on the seeward side of the old road between Scottburgh and Park Rynie but this was some time ago. For all I know it could have been a radio controlled flyers club.

Perhaps one of our Natal mates might keep a lookout when next in the area.

How about persuading one of our more experienced pilots (Trygve/Ian etc) to lead a group of us on a Tour de Worscester. Dying to cross those beeg beeg mountains to our east. Always wondered what was on the other side.

Last few conversations ive had seem to put the score at:
2x Gyro & 2x Trikes from Goedverwacht
Rans & BB from Morningstar and should see a couple of the Trike boys
3x trikes from Tweespruit
2x Bushbabies from FAFK and quite likely some trikes too.

Come to the WC Club meet next Wed Night at Conters and well get a show of hands there, besides we need to sugn you up for more purgatorious activities
- like EVENT OFFICER in training so we can elect you at the next AGM

Having seen those great logs posted by Gert, he advised me on how to do one. I have eventually got one of mine together but without Photoshop so it's not as good. This was a trip out of the "patch"to the Vaal dam and whilst we enjoyed a great tailwind (see the max GPS groundspeed) it was slow going getting back - see the min speed. !! How slow can U go

I took off from Klip at 08:08, did the u-turn at the dam at 08:36, landed back at Klip at 09:56. Eish

Last Saturday (20/08), we flew from Cato Ridge to the Hippo Pools Fly-in in Hoedspruit area. We had a good time, meeting people and enjoying the hospitality of all the local folk. I believe there were about 50 aeries that flew in - some stayed over and some just stayed for breakfast.

After Hippo Pools we followed just inside the Kruger Fence low level all the way to the Numbi Gate. Saw hippo, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, rhino, buck, elephants, etc.

Then we took Demon's advice and booked in at the Numbi Hotel in Hazyview, which has a good runway with safe aircraft parking - locked behind gates and fence and within sight of our room. They also have camping or caravanning facilities. The staff and food were great and it is very centrally situated for flights along the Blyde River Canyon, Pilgrims Rest, etc. We took a regular tourist map and followed that from Sabie past Graskop, Pilgrims Rest, God's Window, Bourkes Luck POtholes, the Three Rondavels, Blydepoort Dam, etc and then out the Canyon.

Then we flew to White River and then on to the Baghdad "runway" - an old road converted into a place where you can touch down. Right across the road from a lovely interesting shopping centre, so had some cakes and cold drinks before flying back to Hazyview. Wonderful flying.

The attached photos are not too good - light was in the wrong place and also wanted to keep it small. Nothing is as good as being there!
