Microlighters

Hello Lads,

Quick question, a mate of mine is a qualified Helicopter pilot. He wants to fly a 3 axis microlight, what sort of training / conversion is required. Surely he wont have to do more than a few hours conversion wil he ??

Does he have a 3-axis rating? i.e. does he have any other 3-axis planes on his licence?

If yes, then it should be a simple conversion, if no it will take a bit longer.

Nope Morph, i think he just has the helicopter. no fixed wing stuff at all... so does that mean he has to do the whole lot again??

I would suspect that he would not have to do any additional classes or radio licence or aviation medical. What probably will happen is having to do as many hours dual with an instructor until being sent solo. This can take anything from say 6 hours up to 15 depending on how quick he picks it up.

I suggest he talk to one of the instructors at a training school. Where is he based and maybe we can put him in touch

He is a johannesburg based chap. Also wants to do the conversion in MY NEW Challenger???? Hmmmmm not sure I like that idea?? About a 1000 bucks an hour should cover it!!!

Registration is ZU-AFF. I am currently doing my license with Phil. The Jury is still out on whether i am happy to let him do his conversion on my plane.. not that keen to rack up hours that Im not doing the flying..

I personally want to own the plane myself and fly it myself. I would not be too keen either on having someone else racking up hours on it either. Tell him if you let him rack up hours on your Challie he lets you do the same on his chopper.

When it comes to a Gyroplane licence, I know that I got zero/nada/zip/f*@kall credit for my HPPL! Had so much fun it didn't matter and have now let the HPPL lapse happily. Heli's cost 10 times more to run than Gyro's and aren't as safe. Fact.

Hell, what's a slice off a cut loaf amoungst friends? And besides, hours... hell, 15 seconds would do me just fine and dandy!
