Motivation for fast trikes?

I've been reading the SkyGypies site again and they fly with an iXess wing or their preffered 17m2 Fun450. With a stall in the low 20's for enjoying the scenery more. When asked a well respected wing tuner here said his ultimate wing would be the Fun450 - not a moerse quick wing? Altho the VNE is 75.
Before you answer to get "THERE" faster, take a moment for me to explain. Many ppl want to get "THERE" faster cause their fuel won't last for the slower 3-4 hours. So would you be ok with a slower wing if your endurance was 8 hours?
Gtting from A to B quickly due to time contraints or because your fuel won't last A-B-A on a slower trike?
Surely the fun is the actual flying? So a slower cruising wing with 8l/h would be better than a fast cruise with 12-15l/h?
Whats your main motivation?

I think it depends on you mission.

If to get A-B ASAP, faster the better.

If fun flying then speed not necessarily a factor.

If all your mates (Rietties gang) have a fast trike you have to get one or be left behind

.
I don't know of anyone using a trike for A-B commute. I know of a couple sight seeing operations where low and slow is better (for pics), a couple farmer types using them for fire, fence & paoch patrols, where again speed is not an issue.
Possibly it a package deal, rather than simply the wing. I am told some trikes are better matched with bigger (slower) wings and others with smaller (faster) wings? Much like the homebuilts. eg A starduster with 180hp is a bit iffy, while a 300HP model is a beaut... I assume same would be case for Windlass with 447 and big wing vs windlass with speed wing and 912? Horses for corses.(Mission)

Same reason I like the RV. Can fly with the trikes or run away from a Bonnie or C210 when the want arisies...

Versatility and then some

I agree with Demon
I have just ordered and in flight adjustable hang point mechanism - you can fly between 45 and 75 mph (on my plane, can be fitted to others apparently) - better to have both the options I think, you can see the sights below you, and when you get tired, one flick of the switch and you get where you are going along faster. Also doesn't cost the earth.

Yip its all about options.
For me its about a good all rounder. I want to be able to fly slow when im sight seeing and fast when i want to get somewhere, a good range between 45 - 100 is perfect, slow and fast enough. Hence my current fustration. Looks like demon and the GT gang have it all, EVERY morning.

Hi
My full Zim $ worth.
I find if i want to get from A-B i haveto decide to either enjoy the ride or just put on the blinkers and make a beline. Problem is if you do not enjoy the ride then how you get there makes no matter. If i wanted to ignore the world around me i would be driving everywhere but i want to enjoy the ride so a little slower does not matter. Hence the call sign, so what if i am last in the group.
I think it all boils down to how much are you willing to spend on the means of transport you are using ?
if you are sponsored R350K no problem
if outa your own pocket - buy something you are going to enjoy, not something you will be scared to fly.

Surely if you are going to fly 2 hrs regardless then it is great to have some range and options. Only being able to investigate the outskirts of ones airfield eventually gets boring.

Why have no other manufacturers gone into the "wingtip thingies" yet????
