North Coast takes punishing

Postby ZULU1 » Mon Mar 19, 2007 8:44 am

News 24 is not as good as this forum..

We had mega seas last night, many beach front properties got seriously punished, our old flat at Chakas Rock on the beach had the sea through it.

I attach picture of the Chakas Rock tidal pool.

The water even came up to the Salt Rock library.

What a disaster

We walked down to the beachfront this morning after dropping my son at school, and the place is wrecked. Main beach is gone, and many houses have their foundations undermined. The heliport at Ballito is also gone...

Going to be interesting to see it all from the air once these 35kt winds subside.

Most of the beach roads were closed today. I don't think we can re-claim the beaches, parking and homes without dollosses and billions.

According to Windguru, the waves are going to peak at about 7.4m at 11 this morning, and that is just as the tide starts to move in, so I guess we are going to see more damage. It being new-moon, this is not looking promising  The big Tsunami a couple of years ago were only about 3 10m waves. These monsters are pounding the shore non-stop :(

Hi all,

I have posted a little story and some pic on the AVCOM http://www.avcom.co.za/phpBB2/viewtopic ... &highlight

Just that connecting via cellery phone, don't want to repeat un necessary. PLS have a look at the topic. We were not badly affected, only lost 5 metres of land, and 14 beach steps, but the little beach I grew up on, has been destroyed, and has vanished..... (CRY)
