What sort of records are there in radio controlled planes? Speeds, distance etc?

I suppose distance could be beaten by flying from pax seat of a trike  anyone done that? Be nice for formation flying if you set up a radio controlled plane with a camera and have it take pics of you.

Hello FAWGie,

I have exactly the same kit, with OS90 - last one left of my model aeries as I am only flying full scale now.

She is a quite docile in the air but needs plenty rudder to turn. Adverse yaw also an issue but can be sorted out by playing around with amount of aileron up/down travel you allow. If you do get to fly her, don't be too quick on the throttle on the take off roll as she will tend to yaw before you have sufficient airflow over the rudder to do anything about it (ends up coming right back at you, races uncontrolled through the pitts area or does a spectacular ground loop - I have managed to do all three). It is also important to get the tail up as quickly as you can on the take-off roll and once the tail is up you can apply the power more rapidly. Taking off into a good headwind makes for easier take-offs. Cross winds are a big no no unless the credit card balance is in the green. Pre-take off checks include yelling at spectators and telling them to get behind the wall.

Once you have survived the take-off she is a pleasure to fly and lands easily. Just remember to use plenty rudder in the turns.

Good luck!!

cheers
RM

Thanx but its one of those Chinese plug & play bodies- The workmanship is very good but no credit to me- I have an Airwolf by the same company
also very good- I am busy with a 1/5 scale Huey but thats built and paint etc no plug and play - 1,8 m rotor disc with a 23cc Petrol motor- I will post a pic when its finished

Fawgie, beautifull model of the J3. Congratulations to your Dad.
I understand your reluctance to fly it.
Have you tried the Realflight model simulator?
There is a very well modeled J3 on vol one addons if you can get hold of it. You can also edit the model, nothing too technical, just scale it up. A few hours on that and I am sure you will be ready.
