FYI
Spoke to Titus new owner of the Harties ML strip to the SW of Hartebeespoort Dam. He has just bought the plot and is not a flyer. He will be painting white X's on runway and advises that they no longer be used. Obviously in emergency??? use at own discretion, but it no longer going to be maintained.
Was trying to get hanagrage. Wish I had known it was for sale

Hi Demon, thanks for the information.
On this point

- a main topic with a heading "Hazards" would really be of value where topics could be added on Harzard Conditions at Airfields or in general. May it be on the conditions of the runways, tricky flying conditions when approaching, etc. or just bad experiences shared with others. Also great for flight planning. Sort of NOTAM service
This will really improve Flight Safety

Titus is happy to keep the runway if someone else maintains it. He is not willing to maintain it. (Mow mainly). I am sure he can be convinced. There are a couple 'sheds' that were used as hangars that he is trying to rent out? Suppose it depends on what the tenant wants to do?
PS
If someone has a mover which will do the runways I will mow once a month... Would have to be a largish mower though so assume it would cost big buck$...
As I say wish I had known it was for sale...

RV4ker, here's a

If you could find a few more hangar buddies, you'd be the tenants and you could all club together to buy the mower

then if you were to get the mowing done and maintain the airfield

you could charge a nominal landing fee to whichever microlighters drop in from time to time

and that would go towards covering some of the costs.
You'd have hangarage a hop, skip & jump away from your

Harties spot

you wouldn't need to buy a piece of land and build a new airstrip from scratch

the microlighters would have a convenient, safe landing strip for when the need arises

the new landowner would have a good tenant

and everyone would be :D :D :D

You okes gotta go to Hendrina farm to check how it's done.
Manicured grass, very short, automatically fertilised.
Just don't come in straight after the garden service has left, coz if you don't have wheel spats it creates a serious sheep shit spray.

Skribbles
Exactly what I had in mind. Plan was in addition to the hangars a couple wendy's for a weekend getaway - a sort of cheapie self catering bush getaway. Maybe tie in with one of the operators on the dam etc etc etc... Fly, ski, paddle, fun in the sun on Jhb doorstep.... With fly school once I done Dave's course etc etc..
Have burn't my fingers too many times on other peoples ground.... Not keen on leasehold improvements, so unlkess I own it, I not that keen....
Dave
Titus number is zero8two 659 1103. He bought it 3 months ago, so may not be that keen to sell. I did not ask, but there is a small cottage of sorts...
