Hi Guy's

Hope you all are well. I would like to fly to the beach on Saterday Morning weather permitting with the RAF that I have brought down last week. I would just like to know if there is anything that I have to know , like special freq and so on...... before I do this.

Did come and say hallo to you guy's at Morning starr on Saterday morning with a low flyby.

Cheers

Hi Saraf,

The 1:250 000 aeronautical map has all the info on it. I have a full-resolution scanned version. The map you need - Western Cape 1:250 00 - is 17 Meg, let me know if you have better internet connection than dial-up, I can point you to a url where you can download it from.

Cheers,

V.

PS: Everyone else: the Deparment of Survey and Maps now offers the complete set of 1:1 000 000, 1:500 000 and 1:250 000 maps of Southern Africa on a CD. (I'm sure they don't mind if we copy it, they charge R25, which - I think - about covers their media cost.) FAFK regulars, let me know who wants a copy cut and I make a plan.

Been trying to get hold of the 1:250000 for ages, can you send me the URL, I have a big plotter here so can print us some and bring back in a month. Also if you can organise a CD for me with all on, we can sort out repayment when I get back...

V, are these maps for the whole of SA, and are they current?? are they downloadable. buying charts is a load of garbage, especially if you only need a small portion of it.

Jpeg's of the ones you buy. They are as current as the printed versions... Awesome to use with oziexplorer or fugawi and laptop....

I have whole set of 1:1'000'000, 1:500'000 & the 2 1"250'000 avation maps as well as whole country in 1:250'000 for air racing...

Think there was a copyright issue, but they will put on CD for you for free if you take it to them. Can also be ordered on internet with credit card (Accepting CC's is a huge leap for govt dept and most convinient) http://w3sli.wcape.gov.za/SURVEYS/MAPPI ... o.htm#aero

Yup, the maps are the same as RV describes them - they are large jpeg's (not much detail loss) - scans of the printed ones. Btw. printed maps are cheap too (R15-20 if I remember correctly).

The CD is readily available from the the Dept. of Survey and Maps, just that they don't always have them in stock. Thanks to Barry for finding out that they had stock now.

I put up the maps on my server in Californa (lots of bandwidth), anyone wanting to download, please pm me for username and password. No secrecy, just don't want to put this sort of thing on a public forum so that the whole world starts downloading (and I run out of my bandwidth budget :)
