Just to give you guys and gurls a taste of landing at Morning Star in a Strong NE. Here is Zirk, the chairman of our club and an instructor with Ranger, hanging on and holding the camera. You start on crosswind, facing west and turn North for 02. You will notice the high Blue Gums in the foreground surrounded by lower Port Jacksons. if you have sound you will hear the amount of power needed to combat the sudden sink they hit just before clearing the trees. There is significant turbulance created by the trees and the hangars to the right. Note that he flies the plane all the way down, working the bar until the last second. and only going to idle once landed

Emil, Morning Star is one of the reasons why 3-axis are more prevalent in the WC than trikes. However let it be said you can still be caught out by the sink on strong windy days.

I remember well landing my trike in December 1999 during a NE at Morning Star. It left me with a somewhat bent nosegear and bruised ego. Everything went fine until my wing was at the hight of those port jacksons (i.e. 1 meter to go till the wheels hit the ground). Well, hit they did. The trike simply slammed into the ground without me having the slightest chance to do anything about it (yes, I was coming in with high engine power).
I haven't even had the guts to land my Jora there since then (allthough FASH can prove to be quite a fight during a NE as well, but nothing like Morning Star) !

Ha ha ha. I've experienced and witnessed a couple of those. We should call it the hop, skip and jump runway.
