I have a friend interested in microlighting. She lives in Centurion (Lyttelton). Can anybody recommend schools that are:
1) good!
2) easily accessible from her location (I am not sure fighting two hours of rush hour traffic for a 1 hour flight is worth it) ;-) .

Thanks!

Hi Justin,

Sorry I don’t have any info on schools up there in the big smoke but I would say that fighting 5 hours of rush hour traffic for a 15 minute flight would be worth it… :D

Hi Justin,

Try ... Centurion Flight School
Aero 57 Airfield (North of Fourways, Johannesburg)
(082) 666 2000 or (012) 653 2541 Flo Momburg

The field is 10 km west of Centurion next to the R28 Highway, also see http://skydancers.co.za/

Thanks for all the info (and PMs) guys - I will pass the numbers on to her. Does anybody have any rough figures on how much it would cost to do an MPL. All up (medicals, ground school, etc.), with 'typical' hours, not minimum hours?

TIA,

Hi Justin,

The Schools quote you in the area of R400 to R450 per hour, and 25 Hours to complete the license, best case. I completed my license in February and worked it out to cost about R620 an hour, including fuel, Radio, ground School, medical and all the CAA stuff. Also my experience is that you would probably look at about 30 to 35 hours to complete the license (very few completes in 25 hours).

I trained at SkyRiders, Microland, call Fanie on 083 400 7622, I think they might be the closest and Microland is the place to be if you want to hanger a plane. ERMF (east rand micro flyers) are quite active and there is at least one or two fly- aways a weekend. As a novice the bigger club, advice and support has been great and built my confidance and appetite for microlighting in general.

Good Luck.
