Wing Tips

Postby Linda Visagie » Thu Oct 20, 2016 6:01 pm

Winglets reduce wingtip vortices, the twin tornados formed by the difference between the pressure on the upper surface of an airplane's wing and that on the lower surface. High pressure on the lower surface creates a natural airflow that makes its way to the wingtip and curls upward around it.

Sorry. I do not agree. I fitted winglets to my Aquilla with a 503 3 years ago. They definitely increased the speed by about 5 mph. The wing was more stable BUT when landing or flying where sensitivety was required then the wing was bit slower and heavier to move around quickly. Would I recommend them, well they work for me!

Bryan. I have no experience of trikes. Never been in one. Simply a general opinion. What says

On a trike, increase in speed, much more stable in turbulent conditions and looks very s3xy

A Slight increase in cruise speed, I find the wing handles tight turns better with less input to maintain height, and once settled into a proper "short finals" line up for landing, maintaining accurate directional control improves. All these improvements are marginal though, the bottom line: they make the wing look awesome! I installed them myself, four grand well spent.
