I voted for 50-100

Given how often I fly - once a weekend - for 2 hrs tops.

My 200k Ford Single Cab bakkie is costing me R600 per month, I drive that 4000km a month.

My aerie goes 70km/h at cruise so 2x70x4=560km per month I travel.

roughly I travel with my aerie 14% of what I do with my car, thus I need to pay 14% the premium.

14% of R600 is R84.

The fact that taxies do not abide by the rules of the road surely justifies they must abide by the rules of the air then. For the extra R16 per month I am willing then to risk to fly into them in mid air.

If we look at risk vs reward. Much more benefit to insure a car than an aerie.

I am going to be brutal now - but this needs to be asked - of all the fatal aircraft accidents we had in the past few years - how much of the aircraft insurance has actually been paid out?

More nastiness - DarkHelmet (example) died last month - did his insurance pay out for his aerie or was that shoved asside and his life insurance covered the cost to his nearest and dearest?

Everyone always love to quote stats.. Where are the payout stats?

PS: Bacchus is referring to this post: viewtopic.php?t=2528

Now my car goes onto the road every morning at (when I leave home - insert time here)

It is at risk when I drive to the airfield once a week. So is the airfield such a risky place that my aircraft has to be loaded with the same premium as my car?

The last quote I received was for 6k a year - R500 a month for my aerie? Yet in the last six months I have claimed 1 car theft (R60,000) and 3 R30,000 accidents on my business policy and I had 3 rental cars for my staff to boot?

Yet I pay sub R500 for each car?

Economies of scale probably - the more we insure our aeries the cheaper we get it.

I would like to see a shift - my aerie is approaching the "Dad? Can I have a new sail, Dad? can I have an engine overhaul?" stage.

Help me provide that and provided I do not claim for two years pay me out 50% of my contribution to pay for my "kid" growing pains!

Why not attach a poll to the insurance policy post on how much you expect you should pay for a policy? Making it reasonable ofcourse... Dark helmet has some good pionts... but motor insurance is supported by almost every motor vechile on the road and the competion that that brings. I think the next catagory up is reasonable.

P.S. Something that annoyed me was the questionare did not state what type of cover it was... full cover, 0 excess, 3rd party the works?

Economies of scale probably - But it is also true that when the premiums are reasonable, many more will insure their planes. I also mentioned on the poll that I think it is far less risky to insure my trike than my car.
Biggles , there is a premium thing attached to the poll.
I said R200-00 would be fine. Think it is fair to us and the insurance company. And off cource it must be full cover. Even if the hanger burns down. They can then ask you a once off payment of say R100-00 for every time you put the trike on a trailer behind the car.

Or in Demon's case - put a car in front of the trike ;) That GT450 goes like a bat out of hell!
