DA deputy leader missing - Nepal

Postby kloot piloot » Thu Oct 08, 2015 4:29 pm

The article says a provincial Democratic Alliance deputy leader has gone missing in Nepal. It mention she was the only pax on board.

Wonder if it was with one of these outfits who do microlight site-seeing tours in Nepal?

It is fact.

The aircraft was an Ikarus, on a 1 hour flight. Contact lost after 20mins. Huge search on by authorities and locals. By late this afternoon still no news. Area is covered in dense forest..
Pilot was highly experienced, in excess of 5000 hours, instructor, very disciplined. 5th year working in Nepal for the operators.

..it can happen to anyone guys. Please keep on your toes, never let your guard down..

Really sad for family and operators. They are a tight knit community.

Regards.

Still no news?

David, looking at their website and photos, those trikes all seem to be in mint condition. Also equipped with balistic chutes.
I am very curious to hear the outcome.

Yes Roel, millions invested. I am personally involved in that I have trained all their Nepalese pilots.

The Ikarus aircraft that is missing was brand new.

Very strange indeed..

Still no news. Am in daily contact with them.

:(
Very sad indeed.
The wind has always been my biggest worry.
I can only guess how the wind is funneled through those mountains making it difficult to fly.
Thanks for the info so far Lamercy.

Very sad. An Ikarus C42 is quite a rigid plane, built on an internal aluminum beam and has a very good weight to performance ratio (290 kilo empty weight). Almost all planes are equipped with a ballistic parachute.
I have flown a lot of hours with this type, sometimes handling severe winds and heavy down drafts.
The plan can take a lot of beating. Nevertheless, alpine environment can be unforgiving and can be a hazard to all kind of planes. Maybe, there is a still a chance that the chute was pulled and survivors can be found.
