On one of my trips to visit my boet, who lives in Arizona, we drove past and later flew over this aircraft "graveyard". It apparently serves two purposes. It is a dumping site for decommisioned aircraft and also, a storage (parking) site for excess airline aircraft. The climate in Arizona is very very dry and this is the ideal condition to store the aircraft. The decommisioned aircraft are used / sold for spares. The spares are also preserved better in these dry conditions.
So, don't be so sad....not all aircraft go there to die....some are just on holiday
