Let's talk about ATTITUDE

Postby John Boucher » Mon Mar 24, 2014 12:18 pm

So, I receive a disturbing call the weekend with regards to a WCM pilot taking up a PAX with a 5-year old strapped to the lap...

Let's hear what you as microlighting community would want done about this?

Award the Zuma showerhead prize, about the same as shagging someone with aids and then taking a shower.

I'm sure the five year old was made aware of the consequences and his chances strapped between two guys if they had an engine-out and made a calculated decision to fly.

I'd rather put the child in the back seat with an adult (-) than to find the child in the air standing on the seat (**) (it happened before... ## )

So let me understand this... do you chaps approve that a toddler is strapped on the mother's lap on the back seat and then taken for a flip?

What happened to 1+1 in a WCM?

John, if AERO club and CAA is on a SAFETY campaign, then this pilot is totally out of bounds. His NPL should be revoked.

Hell no!
It is not only irresponsible, but it also puts a child who is not old enough to understand the risks, in unnecessary danger!

Personally, my daughter will not become a passenger in a WCM until she is old enough to understand the risks, and knows what to do, and what not to do!
I can equate it to leaving a loaded gun in a house with a young child who is not old enough to understand that it is not a toy, and will kill.

So John, how come it becomes your problem?
Probably because the witness does not want to get involved and that seems to be one of the issues we are dealing with in GA.

If I understand correctly there are three bodies on the trike? I'm asking because it defies comprehension.

Pax probably thinks things are not ideal but trusts pic,
5 year old trusts pilot & pax because that's what 5 year olds do and they know grownups are there to look after them and will do so.

Current hero in SA is (Excuse the spelling) Thuli Madonsela. She's involved and it appears to be for all the right reasons.

Nail the chop.
ps I think I am spelling pic wrong.....

The right thing to do is not to take a pax who can not sit still...Take the mother for a flip...

Milo, It becomes the problem of MISASA as ARO as we have a responsibility to our members but also to the unsuspecting PAX! In actual fact, each EXCO member is a safety officer entrusted to uphold the MOP and constitution of MISASA. The witnesses are willing to get involved!

If we do not try to clean up our act from within, my ranting and raving iro the manner in which CAA Enforcement operates really comes to "naught" !

Some chaps are taking the mickey out of what has transpired but I may just toss a curve ball once confirmed... till then!

John

I would call the pilot in for a "Cup Of Tea" and explain to him that it is breaking the law. An email or "warning" from MISASA would do I guess (**)
My daughter flew with me since the age of 5. I had an extra 5 point harness made that strapped her in nice and tight. We went through the normal what not to do things in a way she could understand. She loved it and today knows all the ins and outs of being safe in either my trike or Jabi.

Also when taking a small child for a flip the first time, I found that just taxi up and down a bit to see how the child manages that before even leaving the ground. Sometimes the noise or just the feeling of confinement with the headsets on can be too much for a small child.

I think the guy flying a toddler and a pax was way out of bounds. Imagine if anything happened, just think of the image that would portray again of the thugs flying microlights. ##

...a "minor misdemeanour" compared to what I saw this weekend... Crazy decisions made by pilots who should know better.

Sadly... developing a good, safe attitude to flying cannot be "drummed" into any pilot who is not willing to take the first steps him/herself.

You will be amazed how far a pilot will go to defend his own stupidity....

Must say TC...I loved your suggestion of putting the brat in the saddle bag...
