Instructor Wisdoms / Sayings

Postby Pat Two » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:39 pm

The un-sung hero's that helped us take the baby steps into the sky. What did yours say? What was funny? What was a truth that you hold onto today?

I'll start:

"No matter how you feel about landing this aeroplane, it has to happen somtime today." Said during a time when I was battling to land the aeroplane.

"Do something, you are gonna kill us". After a less than elegant incipient spin recovery.

Let's hear, there must be some excellent quips out there.

An "icebreaker" whilst taxiing to the holding point for my renewal...(Fanie Deysel and I)

FD: "Aggenee?....Daar gebeur dit alweer....!!??" (**)
Alan: "NOU WAT NOU??"
FD: "Nee man....elke keer as el my oe toemaak...dan kan ek niks sien nie???"

"Maintain your airspeed and do not turn out early! (referring to takeoff)...jy verander mos nie spoed of rigting as jy nou lekker naai nie?"
(Anton, my initial instructor during training)

"this is an aeroplane not a trampoline!" (after a very bad bounce! )

and more than once..."What the hell are you doing Mr Hussey???" (**)

Liam off LSA used to say Flying is not a matter off life and death........it's far more serious than that!

At the start off training, Cyril: And their is another six pack beer coming may way, airspeed went below 60mph in turn after take off. Learned that it was cheaper paying him in money than beer

Wise sayings from a cropspraying friend of mine:

When in doubdt DONT!!

Rather be on the ground and wish you were in the air, than be in the air and wish you were on the ground
The Sky is not my limit, it is my playground!!!

When my eyes re-focused and my brain stopped rattling inside my skull, I could clearly the sh!t we were in and promptly recovered the situation!

Funny one's aside...some of the ones that stuck with me are:

"Speed, Field, Fault, Finals!"

"Equipment can fail...gravity doesn't"

"You can let a flight exceed your expectations...but never let it exceed your limits!"

"Don't become a passenger in your own aircraft"

"It's easier to cancel a flight than to plan a funeral"

"Flying is a privilege...not a right...."

"When all goes quiet, altitude can buy you time, but time cannot buy you altitude"

When the length of the runway is 20 meters and the width is 1000m, you've landed on the wrong runway vhpy

Another one from training at Rand..

My instructor advised me the BEST way to get the towers attention (only joking!).. "Rand rand, I gotta land".

A couple from Liam (Light Sport @ Rhino):

Fly towards the runway until it becomes inviting.

When landing, fly down, don't fly up.
