Glyding range of aircraft

Postby Blue Max » Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:26 pm

With the engine of an aircraft sitting behind the pilot , pushing, ( Trike, Challenger and few other) and on the other hand an aircraft with the engine to the front of the pilot.( pulling).
Does that have an influence on the glyding range of the craft.?

CG will determine how an aircraft flies and glides. So if the motor is in the front or back the CG needs to be correct so personally I feel it has very little effect. could be wrong

Planes with the engine in front will definitely glide a lot further. FACT

This is due to the fact that most planes with the engines at the back are trikes (and gyros) and as we all know only real men fly trikes (and gyros). FACT

Planes with engines in the front are generally flown by pilots that are full of hot air. Hot air as we know RISES. This additional lift will allow these planes to glide further.

Actually I have no idea but would think its the weight and wing size that would determine glide and where the engine is would not be relevant.
