Sodwana Airfields

Postby Splinter » Thu Feb 27, 2014 9:42 am

Has anyone flown to Sodwana recently?
I have never flown there and would like some info on the current runway condition etcetera.
I see on Easyplan there are two airfields listed very close together. One is Sodwana Microlight Services with a 200m runway and the other is Sodwana Bay National Park at 600m. Google Earth shows them as the same airfield, is this correct? Will be flying a Sport Cruiser so 200m is a little short for take off.

I also remember a while back some guys restoring the airfield and runway but cant remember if it was on Microlighters or Avcom? Some info from these guys could also be very helpful.

Regards

I wanted to know what the GPS Co-ods are for the Microlight Strip down in Sodwana and the info I got was supplied by Ezulwini Lodge that states that they are 500m from the strip and the co-ods being 27 59.033S and 032 20.335E. What I have noticed is that there was work done on the strip but that was in 2014 and nobody seems to be able to tell if the strip is in a useable condition and also what the security situation currently is. Well I am not planning to fly down there in the near future but what I can suggest is for any one interested in flying down is to phone Ezulwini Lodge on 0878035691 or 0836351489 and ask them in what condition the 200m Microlight strip is aswell as the other strip that is 600m close by if going in a blik. Hope this can be use full. FAHL might also be an option
