I am planning on doing my flight test soon and am a bit unsure about when I will be allowed to fly legally. When you pass your flight test and the instructor endorse your logbook as such, are you allowed to fly OUT immediately, or do you still have to wait for THAT piece of paper from CAA that sometimes, I believe, takes a while???

No unfortunately I believe you have to actually have your licence on you when you fly, which means that the paperwork must be submitted and your licence returned. If you know someone up in JHB it only takes about an hour to get it through. My daughter did the paperwork for me. Johan Froneman uses a young lady up there to do all the paperwork. I think she changes R120 and she walks it through the system. Put the stuff on overnight, she takes it through and overnights it back.
I can try get her contact details for you if you want.
The same is true for an authority to fly, only valid once CAA have issued it.

Yes, unfortunately you have to have the paper in hand. With Collette and the couriers it should be about a week from day of sending.

Hallo TB, my flight test is scheduled for coming Saterday, so I guess that on Monday I would be able to courier up the documentation. Let me know if you have any ideas
From some of your posts I assume you have a GRS chute fitted to the Thunderbird, is it the GRS 3*450? I am at the point of ordering mine and want to make sure it is the correct one. :D You can pop me an e-mail or PM if you want.
BTW, how is the "pienkvoet" doing....
