Microlighters

Don't know if anyone else has asked this before but we have had heaviest passengers and recently a video of tdrtw's grandmother in a trike.

I have heard of a 3 year old going up in a microlight strapped into his car seat, I asked my 90 yeard grandmother if she would go up but she declined

So tell us who has been your youngest and your oldest pax

I am nervous taking young kids up, unles they sit next to you and it is fully enclosed so my youngest has been around 16

Old pax. This brings to mind a lovely story that a friend told me.

A while ago he was at some airshow/flying event and was standing next to his trike when this "ou toppie" walks up to him and asks for a flip. Alan was rather amazed that this man of advancing years would want to fly in a microlight but the guy told him that he had always wanted to fly in a trike.

Being a nice guy Alan agreed to take him up and they started chatting. Alan asked him his name to which he answered "Bomb Riley" (I hope I am remembering this part of the story correctly)

Alan asked him - "Why is your name Bomb", to which the old man replied he got his name flying combat missions in the second world war and the one day as he was taking off in a fighter plane a bomb came loose and exploded on the runway overturning the entire aircraft. At this point Alan thought that the guy was crazy and kinda humoured the old man while not really paying too much attention to his war stories.

Alan thought that if this guy was really a pilot he would at least say something intelligent once in the air like "this wing has a lot of lift etc" but the old man said nothing and merely thanked Alan for a great flight after they had landed.

Months later Alan was in the CNA paging through some War book and who does he see? A picture of a much younger version of the same old man he took for a flip with the whole story of how he got to be known as "Bomb"

I don't know what the moral of this story is but it is a cool story.

Makes me wish I had asked my grandfather more of his war stories, He in the airforce as a navigator, don't even know what plane he flew on - just know they searched for submarines along the coast initially and then went to Italy.

I had my instructor take up my old man with my trike when he (my Dad!!!! :D :D ) was 85. He still tells all the old birds at the retirement home he flew the trike and if he had known it was that easy he would had flown it years before! But then he also tells them he played with the '37 Springbok team in NZ just because he now owns a Pick & Pay Springbok jersey. They believe him as he can still recite the entire team off pat with each one's stats.

Oldest I took up personally was 82 (the same month he bungied off the Storms river bridge) and my grandson was 5. The grandson was a short trip though. Worries me too much with on the back seat and outa sight.

My daughter's being flying with me from age 3. She was my youngest pax. Not sure about the oldest but think high 60's. My daughter now 4 flies with me on a regular basis. 15-20 min flip is ideal. No special seats on my trike.

Oldest: My mother-63
Youngest: Friends daughter-13
Average Age of my pax-30

My daughter has also been flying since age three. Sadly she has never been very interested in aircraft (maybe too much?). My son has also been flying since age three and has now flown in the C205, C206, Ka7 glider (with a wing-over or two thrown in) and last year at the age of 10 a trike. He's relaxed and no problem at all in any aircraft. He would still love to fly in a chopper as the whirleys are his passion.

Oldest was my dad about 5 years ago when he was 74 , The youngest is my son who was 7 at the time. he is now 10 and still flys regularly and loves every minute.

My son 2 years old then now 5

The word "Eventually darling" have not crossed my lips yet :D

An local ex-pilot, no names - just crazy - took his one MONTH old kid up! In the front of mom, in a harness, under the jackets etc!!!!

Oldest has been about 80 years young.
