Hi there Pilots;

Part of knowing all of you fabulous Pilots is the pleasure of asking this question and knowing that someone is going to put me into contact with someone who can help...

I would like to arrange that my daughter arrives at her Matric Farewell in a helicopter... "arrive in style" I'd say...

If there is anyone out there who would be willing to fly from Rand Airport to Benoni (the Venue). I do have to check if there is a Heli-Pad etc. of course; what would he/she charge me for this little flight... I know I know... but i am looking for a little help here... a good price?

Whilst you are finding me that Pilot - I am going to find out if there is a heli-pad at the venue. Let's hope so..... otherwise, any other wild suggestions to arrive in style... contacts of such-like people... Cart drawn by white horses, Limo (nah - that's so common); uummm...

Hey there Linda,

If I was still current on choppers, I would offer to help out where I can, although its a grey area in terms of comm etc... technically this would be defined as a charter...

One additional thing they will need to know is timing... if it is at night, it is not likely to be possible, as there are very few night rated heli pads that are not at airports...

Another thing to remember, you will need to plan the return or departure, as this will most likely be late, and that would put it out of access in most circumstances...

Lastly, as you are involved in a flying community, remember a plan B cause as you know, the WX can cancell the flight with little warning...

Did some digging on the horse drawn carriage option through some friends, seems a chopper may be more affordable...

I had an instructor who had a bride who he flew in, she insisted against his objections that they land closer to the marquee... an everything pretty much got blown over by the down draft... and there were a few wrecked hair dos too... even the cake was wrecked...

Hope you find a willing pilot...

Hi Craig - unbelievable that a horse drawn cart would cost more... as for the chopper, I thought about her hair-do and then I thought she can wear something around her head as she gets out, but who wants that... if I know her, or any teenager for that matter, she'd not like that idea at all.

thanks for all your advice and your help Craig. By the way, I made a mistake, it would be from Rand airport to The Wanderers.... isn't that on Corlett Drive?
They have to be there fairly early - like 18:00 - so in September it should still be light-ish - right?
As for the return - we won't worry about that as the kids usually go to an after party... so we wouldn't know what time... I mean she may be tired at 03:00 or maybe want to party till 05:00 - who knows...?

A Pink Cadilac costs about R6000 an hour so dont even bother...

There are many more to choose from though.

Chopper ride is difficult and not very practical (dress, hair, bla bla bla)

Henley air can help.The chopper must be twin turbine for night rating.I know that they have a bell 222 like airwolf but with skids on.You going to look @ R30 thousand rand for an hour.Maybe they got something else. Robin R66 or R44.Or ask Hugo Visser @ Petit airfield.

I had a RG 50. I thought I was THE MAN!

I went to my matric party in a Datsun 1400 bakkie of which you could only close one door at a time as the closed door had to be held while the second door was slammed else the closed door would pop open. The seat was replaced by a wooden plank coverd with some sponge and an old towel
