Old dog returning to the fold

Postby Buggalugs » Sun Jul 14, 2013 10:05 pm

Hi guys,
Greetings and salutations. As you might have guessed, I'm new to the forum but not to microlights.
I started flying micro's in year dot on an American Aerolites Eagle (ZS-UPS) I got my trike 'learners' in 2000
and it lapsed in 2002. I was checked out on the Aerotrike Scout ZZ01 by an instructor that wasn't current on type
hence, I never went solo. Now I desperately want to get back into the air and but a Windlass. But looking at all the
new nonsense with API's and stuff....Jislaaik okes, what's going on? Can someone please simplify the current state of
affairs regarding licensing of pilot and aircraft now days? Is MISASA still the controling body? Wat gaan aan mense vhpy

Hi Buggalugs,

Welcome back. (^^)

I am sure the whole "landscape" must have changed from when you were last involved in the sport. The link that Stefan has posted above is to RAASA who, to answer your question is the controlling body for the Recreational Aviation industry and they have taken over this side of things on behalf of the CAA.

Misasa is your representative organisation (or ARO) as we refer to it. We are a sub section of the Aeroclub and I currently serve with many others on it's EXCO and we work closely with RAASA to make sure our pilots (WCM, CCM, LSA) interests are taken care of. Both have been very proctive in trying to make the new Reg's applicable to our aircraft and we are making good progress on this front.

Good luck with your re entry into the sport, feel free to contact me with any queries at pro@misasa.org

Kind Regards,

Welcome to the forum (^^) (^^) (^^)
Where do you stay? The best thing to do ,is to visit a school near you,and to speak to a trike instructor.

Thanks Bundy and Nico. I guess Nico is probably right, I must get in touch with a local instructor again and get the low down
on whats going on. I live in Nelspruit and I'm a member of Lowveld Aero Club. Trike instructors are pretty thin on the ground here.
I did my last flight with Brian at Pyramid. This town has a bit of a Bantam fetish, hehehehe! No one wants to train on trikes anymore.
I'll keep my eyes on the forum and follow the chatter and ease my way back into the fold. Thanks for a wonderful site, everyone seems passionate about flying, my kinda people...Viva!

Wow... the EXCO is busy ;-)

Welcome back Buggalugs to the world of "Thuggery"

If you don't know, just ask.... pop Bundy pro@misasa.co.za or myself at comms@misasa.org and we'll get you going almost where you left off. Pity though, you will have to go through some rigmarole but it pales in comparison to that of not flying! We really just want to get you in the air legally and keep you in the air legally!
