Hi all,

just curios as to your opinions on something. I read the both fortunate and unfortunate post about 'injured in flight' fortunately no serious injuries resulted from any for of crash, and unfortunate it happened in the first place! This got my mind thinking if there was such a thing as a truly affordable fixed wing craft of sorts that could allow a trike owner to 'convert' to with the same 'freedom of flight' in an open cockpit....

aaaaannnnnd this is what i found --- this is a plane that accepts any Rotax/Hirth engine 2 cycle ofcourse, from 447 to 503, this is a single seater, but also found a two seater unit. Now this is the surprising part -- the cost. what would you be prepared to pay for this craft with or without an engine (brand new ofcourse) ???

There's one looking very much like this, but already set up as a 2 seater standing at aeroden.
It was successfully flying and could from what I hear stay airborne at VERY LOW speeds.
Then a rudder mod was done, and never tested.
It's been gathering dust now for more that 2 years!!

People don't only fly trikes because of financial constraints.
As an example, the P&M GT450, Tanarg etc. are in the fixed wing price range. People who bought them chose them over fixed wing aircraft.

I don’t own a trike…yet (hire and fly for 3-4 years now), but I will never trade in the freedom of trike flying for fixed wing.

It is a very forgiving way of flying; flying fixed wing is more intense compared to trike flying. If you really want to go somewhere in a straight line then go fixed wing route; trike flying is freedom…

For me:
Weekdays=Fixed wing flying Weekends=Trike Flying

I have only flown a bit of fixed wing that is probably why it was more intense for me. I was always busy scanning instruments, only looking outside for ground references and other aircrafts and doing a lot of radio work (due to the higher speed I was more busy on the radio). This is all the same for trike flying but less intense…I don’t use the instruments as much as in a fixed wing.

To be Honest

Did think about it for a few seconds - But, I have flown Both and Flying a trike is a lot more fun than Fixed wing. (In my point of View). If i had a spare one i would make the swop - but it would be for Fun more than anything else. My trike is still my First love.

Yeah .... I think it's just more familiar.

As a matter of interest Turbo, what does it cost?
It looks like it could still be a heap of fun? The small wheel is in the right place after all.
Any details regarding speed, weight etc?

Thinking back many years ago my first trike I had was a white and red Triang trike , later I had a volkswagen /Triumph trike , after that a Delta Speed/ Windlass,( 3), now my forth (4) Aquilla , nothing , but nothing beats the freedom and low cost of flying trikes -. Leprachaun

I'm sure I'm right in that the one at Aeroden has a pusher.

As you all know, I'm new to flying, so I'm always listening to others talk and identify with others opinions, and it seems that freedom is a big choice for trikes, as it is formPPG which is also on my agenda!

Well to answer the question, the price for this baby is a mere R39K plus an engine. I know some people who would like to get into flying and the price of a new two seater trike is out of their price range. With an engine this "plane" is available for just over R85K

I don't think that too bad a deal to be honest.
