The weight will be the killer of performance

Boet -- trust me if i had an engine that made 200HP -- it would be in the little plane -- bet the firewall wont hold the abuse, but i have practised engine outs with Paul --- hehehe
Op n trike -- jy gee my nou idea's hoor!!

Dagse ouens.

botthebuilder -- ya why not!? it hasnt been done before. Besides, if the firewall doesnt hold up, im sure i remember how to perform an engine out -- Thanks Paul hehe
Triker, -- wierd how such a comment would come from Rainbow -- as the difference in price between the 100HP and the turbo engine is not R60K ... anyways i did buy this second hand and for a reasonable price. I currently have the 95HP 912EXTRA engine in my Cheetah, and will be installing the turbo engine (every engine i own has a turbo or two on it .. why stop)
the turbo can be used for up to 5 minutes with full throttle, not 15 seconds, and is perfect for climbing, take offs, and believe it or not fuel consumption (Dependant on flight conditions and boost during cruize etc) I would obviously set my engine up to my liking, and most definately would re-calibrate the electronic wastegate control based on throttle position so that cruize is utilized at just under boost (vacuum) for best fuel efficiency, and throttle application 40%+ to start coming onto boost limited to 50% of available boost for additional power required for slight altitude corrections (climbing) for different runways, conditions etc.
I like to think of it like this -- Chip Foose built a Chevvy Nova (cherry) with an engine far too large for it -- moral of the story, you can drive a fast car slow, but you cant drive a slow car fast ...

Hi Turbo.
Congrats on the SOLO!!!! Paul is very happy with your progress.
We are all there for people making mods to their Cheetah if done in a safe & legal way as I am sure you would do with this project.
The fitment will take a little planning and engineering. I suspect the cowling will need some re-working.
I do have 1 concern though - not that it would probably come into play but its something you need to consider as it would appear you have a slightly incorrect perception of what would happen if the motor was to separate from the frame. The aircraft does not become a controllable glider under these conditions. You will not have enough elevator authority to overcome the massive centre of gravity (c of g) shift.
Have a word with Paul about this and get him to explain about C of G limits and the repercussions of exceeding them.

This is easier said than done. The weight difference is enormous. Your CoG is going to be a major problem. Please make sure before you attempt this conversion.

P.S. Price on a new 914 is aprox R95 000 more (+vat) than a 912uls.

Hi turbo
Ok so it was not R60k... it was more
From what i have heard (and more than 1 person) the turbo on the 914 can only be engaged for 15 secs(safely). I am not going to argue as Im no expert. Maybe some tech guys or guys very long in the industry can confirm above as I would like to have my facts straight (just for own interest sake) before i go and further baffle other people with incorrect figures. In my personal opinion, you cant compare cars to aeroplanes. Maybe chip foose realized that too.
