Postby hermand » Sat May 04, 2013 9:01 am

Morning,

Please support Theuns!! ##

Good morning to you All

Saturday 04/05/2013 morning at 07:00, if weather permits, I will take off from Morningstar airfield in Cape Town for a NON-STOP flight to Kitty Hawk airfield Pretoria.
Distance some 1290 km in a Calidus, call sign ZU-RJY.
This will be a unofficial attempt to break the current World Record for the longest flight in a gyro without stopping, currently hold by Willy Ewig from Australia.
Current record distance 1268km in a Auto Gyro MT-03.

Follow our Face Book for hour by hour updates from the cock-pit on Auto Gyro Africa.

Regards

Amazing flight. Could we get the exact stats? Flight time, fuel used, average speed? Must have had a numb backside after that!

Congrats Theuns on a fantastic long flight, well planned and well flown.

I do have a query - on the Magni gyro website they have a news story from 2012 for an even longer non stop flight - I've no idea if it has been officially validated etc

They say,

""M16 TANDEM TRAINER “WORLD NO STOP FLYING RECORD” by MR. CLAUDIO ITALIANO
in 13 hours at 120 Km/h covering a distance of 1550 km in straight line.
Take off from Carona (Sicily) – Landing in Varallo (Piedmont).""

Longer distance and a much longer endurance.

More info and photos in their October 2012 newsletter, see

I see Tom van der Meulen - from gyros for rhinos fame - set a new record yesterday, flying non stop from Hoedspruit to Donkerhoek in the Cape with his Autogyro MT-OS.

1619.9 km in 11 hrs 2 minutes.

Quite an achievement. (^^)
