Microlighters

I have just joined the forum and need some guidance please. I did some training in 2001 ( 3 hours solo) but aborted due to personal reasons. I want to get started again from scratch. but in the meantime, I claimed a Solo Wing 503 DCDI as a payment for outstanding debt. As I am the rebuild nutcase in the family, I stripped the trike down to JUST SPARES. It will be re painted and all bolts, nuts, cables and rubbers will be replaced. Basicly everything except the pipes, enjin and wing. The trike did not have a prop(where can I start looking) and need to get the AP done. According to the airframe logbook, the last inspection was done 2005.
Any info regarding the route I should take and the cost would be appreciated.

I suggest you make contact with an AP, one that is active with rebuilding trikes and go have a chat. The laws have changed since you last flew and he will fill you in.

Hi get in touch with Alex Rudd, aka Leprechaun on the forum, he can guide you with training and hes an AP

He lives in Pta and flies from Rhino Park (close to Rayton)

This weekend is also the Microland bring & braai, come through sure youll get lots of good advice from the guys

Welcome "back" Rudi.

Tumbleweed has given you the advice I would have given too. Before you start anything else....you MUST get an experienced hand to inspect what you have. Rebuilding/restoring can be a hell of a lot of fun...it can also be a money soaking nightmare with hidden expenses. You need sound advice from a good AP to guide you forward. We rebuilt this year folowing an Oops in March... I refer you to the two related threads:

Training can be done at a multitude of ATO's (Schools) in the PTA area and we are indeed blessed to have some of the best instructors in the country based within very short driving distance. I second Ant's suggestion....go talk to Alex Rudd and get him to "inspect" what you have and advise accordingly. If you stopped in 2001 I would imagine that you will in all likelyhood have to start from scratch as a Student Licence is not valid for a long time. These days the guys are spending between R25 and R35k on their training....all depends on your progress, time and monies avalable.

You are welcome to join us at the ML bring n braai on Sat. The braai is usually lit from around 10h30.

Hi guys, thanx for all the advice, I will make contact with him as soon as possible. Sorry, wont be able to attend the braai, have some family things to attend to. I have also learned that I need to leave for the DRC first week in Jan, so all has to be put on hold for now...
