Does anyone know where G-CDEC is now?

Postby WOBBLY » Mon Dec 10, 2012 7:32 pm

We are trying to locate the current whereabouts of G-CDEC PEGASUS QUIK Serial No.:8081

Let me give you a brief synopsis of events as I recall them. ( Message relayed for G-CDEC Part Owner )

It arrived in Zim at a particularly bad time. The Zimbabwe General Elections were about to be held. Pre-election violence and intimidation was rife and a jumpy government had already started arresting suspected foreign journalists. It wasn't a good time to put a new aircraft (and foreign pilot) in the air especially when it could be used to help inquisitive foreign reporters see things they weren't supposed to see.
I chose this time to close down my operation in the bush for a month and head to Australia. Before I left I made arrangements for the crated Quik to be collected and stored at the Veterinary Department offices in Harare.
XXXXX arrived with the Quik. There were no problems with the importation. Ignoring my advice to leave it in its box for a few weeks until the elections were over and I returned from Aus, she made plans with a few local people to assemble and take the Quik to the privately owned Save Conservancy in the South-East corner of Zimbabwe. On completely the opposite side of the country from Hwange.
There she assembled and got the Quik airborne and did some aerial spotting and rhino monitoring work for private landowners in the conservancy.
In the meantime she set up her own UK based organisation called ZARF (don't know what that stands for but apparently it's registered in the UK) and directed all the DART donations into ZARF.

Upon my return from Australia I was surprised to learn that she was in no hurry to bring the Quik to Hwange. XXXX (and YYYYY, her partner at the time) decided that it would be more useful in the Conservancy.
I never saw XXXXX or YYYYY while they were in Zimbabwe (the Save Conservancy is a very long way from Hwange) so all discussions took place over the phone.
I should also point out the Save Conservancy is an area owned and financed by wealthy individual landowners. They are awash in money and had absolutely no need to appropriate a donated aircraft like the Quik.
Hwange National Park on the other hand is administered by an impoverished Government that has no money or resources to protect their highly threatened population of black and white rhino.
As the weeks passed, I grew increasingly upset, frustrated and embarrassed at how XXXXX and YYYYYY were deceiving the donors and myself and Andy (as part owners) by stubbornly refusing to bring the Quik to Hwange where it was most needed.
Finally we had a heated altercation over the phone and I was never able to reach either of them again by phone or email.

I subsequently lost touch with XXXXX, YYYYY, the Quik and the money my friend Andy and I had invested in it. Andy tried a number of times to reach XXXXX in the UK but had no luck.

We had to give up on the Quik and have no idea of its whereabouts.

Any help would be good.

Hi

The UK CAA website shows that Quik G-CDEC was cancelled by the CAA back in January 2011 - no fate is shown but it can't operate as "G-CDEC" - I appreciate that's a minor point in comparison to its disappearance.

More details of this machine on

G-CDEC has been located so looks like the rightful owner will get their asset back

Wobbly - that's good news.

Will it aspire to a local "Z" Zimbabwe registration ? The "G" reg expired in 2011.

Cheers
