Now even Sunday is in its glory!!
Again, that's for the Magaliesburg and surrounding areas . . . . good luck for those flying in other parts of the country!

WOW, Blue Max! We certainly do learn new things every day!
So, if I have this right . . . .
get up, it the weather is ok, just fly! Don't give any consideration to a weather forecast that predicts the weather turning bad an hour after you have taken off?
Is that really what you are suggesting?
FYI: The weather I posted above was almost spot on. If you re-read Louis Cole's remark, he commented on the "wind picking up at around 11am", exactly as shown.
I have always viewed you as an experienced pilot so am somewhat concerned at your response to "just fly"!

Just my 2 cents
Thanks John for the forecast warning. Rest assured there's at least 1 person appreciating your effort.

My pleasure Sir!
That is precisely the response I would expect from responsible fellow pilots! Even morso when we know that other less experienced pilots are reading this forum!
So, YES . . . . "get up, assess the weather, acknowledge the weather warnings, assess your capabilities, and if you feel that it would mean flying within your and your aircrafts safe envelopes . . . .
FLY!!!!"

Sorry John, did not intend to direct my comment personally.
I think perhaps I do rely to mutch on my personal observations..
I make use of
www.yr.no to plan my flying.
It is easy to understand their forecast..
If some-one explain to me how to understand your graphics I might just find them more valuable than my other source of information..
Ek het net matriek gemaak en behoorlik op my gat deurgeskuur..!!!

Hey Blue Max! No issue at all . . . . I was just more concerned that inexperienced pilots might take your remarks literally!
I will do a "WindGuru for Dummies" post on the forum as it is a really good site for weather forecasts but does need some explaining!
Fly Safe!

There is also a big differnece bewteen a local cabbage patch flight and a longer outflight..
On the cabbage patch if you feel things getting nasty its easy to get home. Not so when heading out on a long trip.
But its ALWAYS safer to check the weather before any flight. As john says the level of accuracy in forecatsing is very good.
It was really kak wx yesterday and today. Friday afternoon was fine (as predicted) and I had a great flight then
Who was taxing to take off at Brits when I went past

Agreed Demon! My only concern is this . . . . Even with a local cabbage patch flight a rapidly approaching front could take you off guard, especially when, like where I am based at Aeroden, you have the mountain to "mask" an approaching front! I live in the area and have seen it go from completely calm to gale force in MINUTES!!
Another case-in-point . . . . on a recent local flight I had checked the forecast and whereas winds on the ground were very flyable, the high-level winds were pumping (southerly)! Well, combine strong high-level winds with mountains and you have HEAVY rotors and downdrafts! So, with conditions near perfect I took off from Aeroden 36, turned out right and at 1000ft AGL got thumped to such a degree that if I didn't have a safety belt on I would have been plastered to the underside of my wing!!

It REALLY unsettled me and I landed immediately and licked my wounds!
Anyway, I think that we are all on the same page again, which is good!
So,
"Check the weather reports, be aware of any impending changes, then check local conditions, and if you feel you are up to it . . . . FLY!!"
Cheers!
Happy & Safe Flights!

Barry's right.
I agree with Blue Max too in that on the platteland where we don't have a localised weather station the reports are from 100km away in a completely different weather pattern.
Deciding on whether to fly locally based on the previous day's iffy web page gloomy weather predictions and you'll hardly get of the ground.
Different matter flying to a further destination and returning after 10h00.
