This is the way I am now leaning . . . . with the reality of the situation shown just to the north of Klip!

Immediate Actions should be:
1. Visit all local scrap metal dealers
2. Scour the area (from the air and ground) for the possibility of one or even both of the engines having being "dumped, for later collection" - look in/under bushes alongside all main foot-paths heading north to the township! A Rotax 582 is only 40-50kg, so still manageable by hand/foot.

I raise point 2 as it happened to me. I had my possessions plundered only to find them six months later in the veld after a veld fire had exposed them, all of which by that stage were completely ruined!! The strategy by these criminals is OFTEN to dump the goods which they can't carry, for later collection, or simply to "lose the evidence" until the investigation has blown over, again for later collection.

Don't wait!!! ## ##

Guys

I seriously do not think it was the squatter camp, they why only those two motors :?:
Much easier stuff to carry out I would presume :?:
It is definately a person/persons connected to Aviation.

You do know that the serial plate on a motor can be swopped out quite easily hey :?:
It is somebody in our ranks :!:

'Just more thoughts . . . . aluminium fetches a far higher price at scrap merchants than normal scrap metal!

Which, if this IS the case, and these bastards connect aircraft engines in hangers with aluminium, it scares the life out of me! (**)

Stolen 582 Engines

Postby John Young » Tue Jul 17, 2012 12:56 pm

Hi Guys,

Can't believe Flying Buddies are involved.

Sounds like the same type that stole fuel at Empangeni and used a match to sight the fuel level through the filler. BOOM. (**) Hangar burned down - loss of 7 ?? planes.

Sounds like the same Dumbo's stealing batteries at Ballito.

Sounds like the same Bozo's who burnt down two hangars during attempted robbery at Cato. Used rolled newspaper for illumination. (**)

Even at Light Flight (with 7 dogs), we employed a night time guard. We were being hit up to once a week.

Regards

Joe and the owner of the other aeroplane, I feel sorry for you guys. Strongs :( :( :(

As an AP: I think we seriously NEED to stamp an additional serial number somewhere on the engine blocks. If the serial number does not match the additional number AND the number on the ORIGINAL paper work. Please explain. My 912 wil be stamped tomorrow.

But, in this case I think, the new South Africans harvested some scrap aly from you guys. I have a movement sensor camera hidden in my hangar, so anything that moves inside, gets recorded. And no, u will not see a "flash" go off either. They are cheap insurance, about R2k for a good one. At least then u will know who to tar and feather.

IF it is a new SAfrican, looking for scrap, donner him hard.( Or take him on a final high flight). If it is a white o`ke, and a pilot to boot. A BIG NAME AND SHAME to go with the tar and feathers. He will be shot if seen within a 100km`s from an aeroplane.

Anyway, very quiet this side, but I will keep `em peeled anyway.

greetings all

thanks for all the support and encouragement. Its good to know that everyone is keeping a lookout for these items.

The other pilot is John Skinner...he is also gutted and rightly so.

Sadly, the evidence is pointing more and more towards an "aviator"... ..can't say too much at this stage.

regards

Joe

Anything else you guys can through in to hasten the retreat. :?:

All the hard work put in by the Klip team has come to nought.

Stop all this Crap speculation.

This post is very cryptic!

Please be so kind as to make yourself somewhat more rational. What "exodus" and "retreat" are you referring to? :?: And, what "hard work as come to naught"? :?:

Is it not a fact that until the perpetrator is caught EVERYTHING is speculation.

Are you suggesting that no one offers up any ideas as to what they think might have happened?

As an aviation community we remain outraged and horrified by this crime and will continue to stand alongside the pilots who were affected.

Please update us with your thoughts.

Not cryptic at all John.
The way I read it is that a lot of hard work has been put into Klip to bring it back to its former glory. Some people have put their hearts and souls into getting the hangars full, cleaning the place up, keeping the runway neat and maintained and doing maintenance work at the place.
Some tenants are probably getting fidgety, and understandably so.
The rest is easy to understand......

Thanks for the clear post Duck! That makes sense.

However, the first post remains cryptic to those not in the know.

OK, I get you now! May I suggest two things:

Firstly, why not thank the aviation community for their support of this incident on this site, which has been incredible!

Secondly, why not adopt a 'glass-half-full' approach and tell your current tenants what measures you are putting in place to mitigate the possible risk of local townships, etc. until such time as the perpetrator is caught?

Please understand that no-one means Klip bad by these suggestions. We really are only trying to assist in the only way we can . . . . which is communicating through this forum. Please accept my sincerest apologies if my posts have led you to believe otherwise.
