Postby marcus » Thu Apr 19, 2012 8:56 am

Thanks guys,
Have driven around and looked at the options.
Microland - great place but too far (and tolls?);
Panorama - also great - but I am negotiating for a fixed wing at present - if space for fixedwing was available would be my first choice.
Kliprivier - o woe!!! locked gates, no water (what happends to toilets?) hangers in poor condition, clubhouse ditto, only one or two active flyers and flyers who are prepared to talk flying to a visitor ( provided the visitor can climb over the gate!!!) Must say that the runways are looking good, but the rest...............I want a place thet is at least adequately managed.

Will keep looking - maybe Heildelberg/ vereeniging/ Baragwanath.
Thanks for the help

Marcus
If you bothered to contact me I would have given you a tour of klipriver.

The gate is locked for your security. As for the water. The bore hole pump was removed this weekend because the lightning stuck it but was replaced with a new one this morning.

As for the hangers and club house being in disrepair . .

You need to be a little more tactfull when you post lest you offend someone.

The runways are great at Klipriver - I am training at Panorama & been flying in that area & even done some touch & go's - if the runways are in that condition I don't see how the rest would be that bad? saying that I have not stopped & looked.

There are a few airfields in the area I have seen flying over it why not use your plane & check the area out mark on map & drive & see if anyone is hanger space?

Have you contacted anyone at BaraG yet or gone to have a look?

PM me if you need contact details for the person that looks after hangarage there.

Hi Falconp1,
seems that people offend far too easily at the truth.
Also, please read my post again. I did not use the term "disrepair" that is your wording not mine.
The locked gate for "security" is a laugh.... I simply stepped through the gate and walked onto the airfield - as could anyone.
The only thing that the gate stopped was me driving onto the field.
As to the condition of the hangers etc - well maybe my standards are a bit higher.

Furthermore, we flew into Klip a while back and my girlfriend needed to use the toilet - which was also locked, but anyway, we found a guy with a key. My girlfriend was disgusted by the state of the toilets and when she called me to look, I had to agree. We flew on to Panorama where the conditions are far more sanitory.

marcus.........you're a member of this forum for only 30 days and have grand total of 4 posts and you've succeeded in p!ssing people off already.
You asked about hangarage and immediately received help and advice.

I found your reply and assessment of Kliprivier quite condescending suggesting that "maybe your standards are a bit higher, it's not sanitary enough for your liking and that you'd prefer a place that's adequately managed" No doubt an insult to the members/pilots/patrons at Kliprivier...

Please remember that there is no active flying school at Kliprivier as is the case at Panorama and Microland and therefore there are no cleaners/workers on a daily basis to ensure that the gate is unlocked and the toilets are in pristine condition just in case you want to drive in or land there for a pee.....

Hey Ducky,

Thank you for that response, I could not have said it better myself. I am a pilot from Klip and yes if the field was more active with regards to a permanent flying school etc, I am sure things would be different. Having said that, I believe that falconp1 is doing a great job with the resources he has and the runways and taxiways are always in a great condition. The people at Klip are friendly and helpful and always ready to lend a hand.

I understand that people have standards, but being new on the forum and not even contacting the relevant people before a visit and then making statements as before...says a lot about the person making them.

Guys, Klip is a great field and a great area to fly without too many restrictions and the nice thing about it is they are inexpensive and your aircraft is safe. (^^) (^^)

Marcus,i am sure u want the best, that is not the problem, but as you said petrol is expensive, so is maintenance, and i am sure you would be crying WOLF if the hangar rental was a little on the high side, so how must these people do it ???? What i have also discovered is not the looks that make the airfield, but the people. Judge the book by its cover. These people are not there to impress you, they are there to have fun. Maybe i should keep my nose out of it, but as an airfield owner i can state that some pilots are a real pain in the butt, and some the exact opposite, real sweat harts and gentlemen.

Just a word of thanks to all the guys that came to kliprivers rescue and put in a good word. (^^) (^^)
I took it quite personal and had to edit my post a few times I was so pissed off.
There was no way I could put it as eloquently as you guys.

Thanks Duckie, Alfa, Hugo and Vatso.

Now back to the business of flying. puff

Maybe Marcus's priorities will change if he had the option of a R500 p/m basic airstrip with buddies watching your back against a R1500 p/m country club charging 20 bucks a beer.
