I am planning a trip from Panorama to the Warm Baths (Bela Bela) area.
Having recently purchased Easyplan, I planned a route via the east of Jhb past Springs etc. When I tracked the route on a paper map, I noticed that it took me through the FAJS Buffer Zone. This zone does not appear on Easyplan. My question is can I fly my trike in the buffer zone or not and if so, is it better to just stay clear anyway.

Stay well clear of the bufferzone. I would route and it is much shorter to Midrand then Pinedene and past the north east of PTA and on to the North.
This will cut more than 1.5 hours of your trip.

Need a transpoder to route through the buffer Zone. Check post somewhere on here regarding requirements. That said it not a problem to route south to say Klip then via Springs, Baps etc to the north. Stay out of SMuts, Waterkloof and Wonderboom airspace and you'll be fine....

Agent. Assuming it a trike routing over the CBD is frowned upon I think... If not a problem then shortist route via Kyalami to Rosslyn then on the Bela Bela....

Thanks. It does look like the best option. My first long flight away from the patch so just want to make sure that I do not run into any problems.

Ja George you are right I don't even know if I was legal on Saturday from Rand to FAGC and then Pinedene in the Bantam. I was at 6000ft on local Rand QNH over the highways.( IFR) ( I follow Roads) Comments please. But I must admit it was a fast route, with the wind from behind.

Check you Auth to Fly, some say "no flight over built up areas" (how do you then get into Rand, Springs or many other fields ) others say "no extended flight over built up areas". It subject to interpretation. Old story. As long as nothing goes wrong it not a problem, but if you drop in on some oukes house or highway they gonna have a problem....

IFR is lekka over Jhb. Nice to do the N3, N1, N17 back to Rand...

It is part of the Spec East airspace but i think one has to contact "JIA advisory" and broadcast your intentions(was previously 119,5 but i think it has changed), your best answer will probably come from a pilot hangered at Springs or Petite.

Quite correct - Petit is in the buffer zone - Hence the fact that our circuits for runway 03 (Right) and 21 (Left) are flown to the east

Thatchman, if you route overhead Springs, Petit, Bapsfontein tower to Cullinan you are safe and don't have to Radio Jhb international as far as I know- obviously you should radio Springs and Petit when coming overhead

Yip Springs is in the buffer zone, just stay well clear of the CTR, you can route arround the CTR, but under the buffer zone outside edge just stay well below 7500 ft, i prefer close to 6000. One of our micro pilots also fly boeings and they regurlarly route them into JHB via buffer zone at 8000ft, but they are allowed as low as 7600ft.

You can route panaroma to klipriver, then just stay south of the railway line into springs, then north to daveyton, petit, bapsfontein. On the railway line portion keep it low, boeings overhead on finals into JHB 03.

What radio frequency is used at Petit? Or do you call on 125.4?
