I can not get it clear in my mind how the logistics of a 100 aircraft fly pat will work (**) (**)

Do you mind sharing your plan with us?

Agreed, I was pondering the same . . . . . please excuse my ignorance, but:
  • Will trikes take off two at a time, side-by-side (Waterkloof could handle that, right?), in order to speed up getting 100 aircraft airborne?
  • Where and HOW will the aircraft "muster" whilst waiting for all the aircraft to get airborne?
  • How will the event controller maintain separation between 100 aircraft whilst "mustering"? Separate mustering areas, say 10, with 10 aircraft each?
  • Once the event gets underway, what type of formation will be flown and/or altitude separation will be maintained in order to maintain separation and reduce effect of wingtip vortices?
  • What procedure will be followed if an aircraft suffers a engine out? Will the formation/separation allow for such a situation?
Sorry guys, just thinking aloud!

Hi Gents

We've got a few ideas going at the moment and I'll share some with you when we've worked out the logistics around the plan. The ideas so far:

1. We all assemble at Waterkloof and take off in pairs with a determined separation distance and fly to Zwartkop do the fly past and return to Waterkloof.
2. We assemble at Snake Valley and take off in pairs as above..........return to w/kloof or Snake valley.
3. We group all the similar a/c (speed, type, etc,)together at Waterkloof and fly in pairs to Zwartkop.

These are just a few ideas that we're brainstorming at the moment in the interest of safety etc. so please be patient with me on this one as I don't want unnecessary concern in the minds of the participating pilots around issues at this point. I assure you that we will make the event a memorable one. xxx

After long and extreme concentration I've figured this one out. We all line up on the runway 30m apart along the full length of 3km, turn to the side and take off simultaniously over the width of the runway (45m). Done vhpy
