Just a quick headsup to fellow aviators planning on landing at Aeroden (runway 18) . . . . . "WATCH OUT FOR THE WILDLIFE!"
Even flying over the airstrip you will need to look hard to see these critters!
Safe Flying!

Properly taken out - That lightie became a worldwide phenomenon overnight after that incident - you tube went from zero to 4 million hits in two days - !!! Aerodens a lovely runway though and if Basie hears a plane he normally bolts out on the quad to chase the intruders away.... stay on your toes though.....

Here is a selection of what we see on our airfield including "Buck Norris" the Blesbok
he believes he owns the runway and needs to be chased off a lot of the time so be observant of him whenever you come to visit us
here he is marking his territory

- Buck Norris marking his territory
some of our visitors have the nerve to say they would like to turn him into biltong, that will never happen guys!!!!
we also have a small herd of Oribi who are quite shy but always around in the early evenings and mornings

- One of the Oribi males
and some really beautiful birds including this Black eagle pair who hunt on the valley edge

- Black eagle pair
besides the birds of prey we also get visited by crowned cranes and just this week we had a pair of blue cranes wandering around
unfortunately they flew off before I could get my camera ready!!!

- Crowned cranes
the Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve is our immediate neighbor, and there is no fence between us, so we are very lucky to have all of these wonderful creatures around our house and airfield
Only in Africa
