Status...expired.

Postby Bundy » Fri Feb 24, 2012 10:31 am

In my very short time on the Misasa Commitee, I have noticed with shock and disbelief the amount of times we have discovered (through the unfortunate investigation of an accident) that there are a great number of our members who are operating with expired ATF's, Licenses, ratings, medicals...ect.

These are just the poor indeviduals who mostly through their own misfortune and actions have suddenly had the light shone on them... It begs the question.... How many of you are there that are flying with expired status? ##

There is no Law here that can be somehow be misinterpreted?

You have to be current! ## It is your responsibility to do this!

Come on guys....get it sorted.

Medical: expires 30 July 2014 - check
RAASA pilot license: expires 02 September 2013 - check
ICASA radio spectrum license: expires 31 March 2012 - due soon ##
ATF: Expired as soon as my plane goose stepped :(

I quite liked the MISASA stickers that were issued with the mag. You could just stick it on your plane, and put the expiry details visible sothat you couldn't forget.

I hope those that have lapsed licences do the right thing and ground themselves until they are current.

PPL Currency & Validation : Current
Medical : Current
Aircraft ATF : Just renewed
Next AP : 25 hours

I have just gone through the whole process the last two days, even though my status or aircraft ATF has not lapsed yet, I have completed the necessary requirements and updated the required info.

I have stuck the sticker with all the DUE dates on the dash for all to see... vhpy I do like this system!

I am implementing the LICENCE, MEDICAL, ATF, ICASA currency system at Mossel Bay Aeroclub

I AM LEGAL, MY AEROPLANE IS LEGAL... ARE YOU?

Is it possible for RAASA or MISASA to have a lookup process setup on internet where a Pilot can do a search to check. We do not carry this detail around and it would be nice if you want to do a quick check.
Flight schools can then also do checks to see if aircraft at the field are legal.

A very good suggestion, I will take it up with RAASA and report back.

We already send out reminders for ATF's.

However, your documentation should always be with you ($$) , and if it is, there can be NO confusion as to when any of your certificates, ratings medicals etc. lapse (**)

Let me explain. We have more than 45 aircraft that hanger at our field. Not all are active. We have no idea if they are legal to fly. If we would can run a check to see if an aerie has a valid ATF or not. We can prevent (as the school) an aircraft from taking off. I agree with Willem, we should all have our papers on the aircraft (required by law/regulation) BUT not all do. This way we can also keep the records of the aircraft that Hanger at the field up to date.

If a database is available on the RAASA Internet site (Even restricted access maybe to the school or some authority at the field), we can assist. I am not saying we want to become Policemen!! That is not the idea, we can warn a Pilot that he is not legal and should not fly. Remember, not everyone is very dedicated to paperwork and needs outside reminders. I accept the fact that RAASA sends out reminders but the school is not aware of the fact that this aircraft is not legal and should not fly.

We just want to keep our Microlight flying reputation intact or at least try and assist to do it.

In this regard, can someone clarify for whether an ICASA license is required for a removable handheld? I seem to recall some debate a while back on this and came away with the impression that this was only a requirement for panel mounted radios? :?

And good luck with getting that licence.. You pitch up at ICASA's offices in person - with your radio, your radio manual, and sommer all your other paperwork - and you get the typical blind "eishh..." stare as you tell them that you want to pay you licence and nobody knows what to do!

Luckily I was in a good mood on the day, so I just laughed about the typical incompetency..and walked out with an undated, handwritten ICASA receipt.

Hi Sean
Go to the ICASA site and apply online, it takes forever but has to be done. Download the form, complete the detail and mail to them. They will let you know the amount to pay and once you have paid, they will forward you a Proof of payment that will cover you till the license arrive (Some months later)

Just been through this exercise, that is why I know.

BTW, how is the new trike flying?

I am busy developing a web application for our club. The main focus initially was to have easy online access to next of kin details for our members. This became a big issue in the recent Elandsriver accident where we were unable to make contact with the pilots next of kin for lack of these details. We have extended the system to also act as a service to our members and allow them to input their medical, licence and atf expiry dates - with the view for the system to send reminders to the member a few weeks prior to the expiry and then perhaps to continually mail the person until such time the renewal is done and details updated.

I am a few days away from rolling it out to our members and if successful I would be happy to make it available on a larger scale.
