Hi All

Last night on television my kids were watching that old movie "Gods Must Be Crazy" but the second one. In it the actor and his girl are flying a little twin engine plane that gets stuck in a tree and all other funny crap. What kind of plane is that (**)

Is it a real plane or just made for the movie? Seems the registration was VAV but could not see ZS, ZU but maybe a Namibian plane?

Anybody know anything about that things

Thanks

The flying bits were done with a RC model (Build by Mark and Anthony Howse in Randburg)and the shots with the actors used a static model. Some of the flying, where the plane appeared to be high was done at God's Window where they could fly above the clouds since they took off above the clouds.

The RC model could be seen in the hobby shop in Randburg for years vhpy

Fly safe,
Rudi

The "Full size" one only ever taxied, the shots where the person is hanging from it was take with the plane hanging from a crane. In the flying shot you can see it is a model looking at the size of the trees behind. Also the flying was slightly too erratic to be a full size, it is very difficult to fly a small, light model in the same way a big, heavy full size plane flies, something that you often see when RC models are used in movies.

My question is...Is this based on an actual Type?? Never seen a design like this....

I hired them the crane to suspend the plane above the trees and the shot at the lodge amongst others. Filmed around Brits.

Nice people, huge laughs.

There were ultralight planes similar to that in America at the time, called a Lazair, I think there's info in wikipedia on this movie & plane. The mockup plane hangs in a restaurant somewhere in Bloemfontein.
Props were turned by electric motors for effect of flying while hanging from the crane.
