I don’t understand???
I got my licence to fly a weightshift aircraft because I was trained to fly it, passed all exams, flying test’s and subsequintly went for a medical.
The doctor issued me a medical certificate after thoroughly examining me.
The Pilot licence required that I be re-tested after two years.
The medical required that I be re-examined after 3 years.
I recently got my CCM licence.
It is getting worse now!!! (**)
The CCM Pilot licence require me to be re-tested 1 year after date of issue.
Shortly after obtaining my CCM Pilot licence I went for the renewal of my medical examination.
My medical test require me to be re-examined after 3 years.
The question is:
Why do I have to go for a fly-ing test after 1 year if I was deemed fit to fly an aircraft and was medically deemed healthy to fly for three years.???
On what grounds did RAASA or who ever decide that I need to be re-tested for my CCM pilot licence after 1 year.???
Surely, the doctor from a medical point of view can decide better about the expiring date of my licence and the need to be re-tested.
The other question emerging is that if I am declared fit to fly an aircraft on what grounds can any-one decide for what duration to issue a pilot licence..????
Is it in the hands of the instructor, RAASA, or the Medical doctor.???
I fail to see the logic of the present requirements....??? >;(((

You are actually supposed to re-validate your WCM license after 1 year as well, only there after 2 years. It is something that is the case with a ppl as well. It is just to see that you are still safe and didn't teach yourself some bad habits after you got your license.

I do understand you question, as it is not indicated as such on the license. Furthermore, I think the confusion is created by the fact that you can chose a one year license or 2 years. They should actually make a standard fee. If you obtain your license for the first time, it should only be for one year, and there after for 2. Why they make us choose is silly and therefor they created the loophole.

BM, I think you are mixing the skills required to fly with the medical fitness to fly. They are mutually exclusive.

-The Dr decides every 3 years if your body is in shape to fly.
-The Instructor decides if your licence should be issued in the first instance, then retest you at your 1 year anniversary, and then every 24 months thereafter to assess if you still have the skills to fly.

Loose your medical = loss of licence
Loose your skills = loss of licence or retraining at least.

Was'nt there a minimum amount of hours eg 20 per year which excluded you from the flight test?

According to 62.01.9 (2) you must undergo proficiency test every 24 months, and this should be conducted by an instructor. This is irrespective of the number of hours.
62.01.9(2) The holder of a recreational pilot licence shall undergo a general proficiency check not later than 24 months since the issue of the licence or a previous proficiency check, as the case may be.

Oom Polla, dis jou "Honeymoon Year" soos hulle se. Sodra jy `n nuwe tipe lisensie kry moet jy daai lisensie na die eerste jaar hernu en van daar af elke 2 jaar. Nuwe reel. In die verlede was dit nie so nie, dis hoekom jy dit nie met jou trike gedoen het nie. Jy gaan ook nou elke 2 jaar 2 vliegtoetse moet doen.

Selfde storie toe ek my LSA lisensie gedoen het.

Hi,

It used to be 5 hours a year to keep your license.

Then it moved into a "grey area" where you needed an instructor to endorse your log book summary whilst they were asking for mandatory skills tests.

So now, regardless of total time, time on type, hours last 12 months you will have a skills test after 1, 3, 5, 7 etc. years in SA.

Over here SOS - my MPL is not recognised as a SPL and I need to do a conversion in my trike that involves a minimum of 15 hours dual and 5 hours solo. The incredibly stupid part is that I will have to fly 80 miles solo each way to Zypherhills to do my dual training. This commuting for training won't count towards my solo hours as I won't be signed out. Go figure????
