Koenie talks of fuel consumption in the region of 10-13l /hour and she flies comfortably at around 70-75mph.

Will confirm with him though!

Fuel consumption is 9l / hour confirmed over the last 60 hrs of flight.

What do they want to know?

Approx. 75 Hp from the motor.
Reduction: 1.7:1 14mm pitch gates belt drive
Propeller 72 x 48 fixed pitch
Peak RPM 3200 after release
Climb rate 700 f/m at the coast.
50L use-able fuel will give you about 5 hrs of flight ( tank 60 l )

Wat nog?

What engine is it from.
Did you build the reduction drive
Is it chain or gear
What did engine instalation cost
Mags or electronic ignition (again type did you build etc)
Any engine heat issues
Any problems since installing it...

Would be lekka to see a diesel trike.... puff

En sommer nog so paar foties sal lekka wees.

Brag n bietjie man...

Koenie

If I may, then I'll oblige with the photos. I think the engine weight will rule it out for a trike George and before I talk nonsense again I'll leave that to Koenie vhpy

Hi RV4ker

The engine is a gray import 2l Toyota turbo diesel that cost me under 4K.
Reduction is standard pulleys from Bearing man or any bearing company that has been re-machined to accommodate the center hub and bearings. A Gates or HTD 14mm x 55mm wide belt is used. This can handle approx. 130kw. Cost approx. 8k including machining. Maybe a bit more today as this was done a few years ago.

Diesels do not have mags as it is a compression ignition system. This is the beauty about diesel. Very little electrics. Only starter and cutoff switch uses current.

I had a bit of heat problems in long climbs where the water temp goes to high. I am busy with some ducting to get better airflow through the radiator. No heat problems during a cruise climb, only at full power for more than 5 min.

This is Experimental and there are always some tweaking and changes that one can make to improve. I will not sell this as an installed power plant in any aircraft but for the Piet it works and I can maintain it myself. The Pietenpol was designed for a heavy engine so the choice of a diesel made sense to me.

John, you are welcome to post photos. I have no idea of how to do it. I am still a BC boytjie.
