Volksrust Fly in.

What a lekker jol. No weather sources seemed to confirm weather predictions- that place has it's own weather phenomenon, so delayed the planned Friday morning departure till 15h00.
Pleasant flip leaving with 10 miles headwind with the last 15 miles becoming a 30 mile headwind.
Fortunately the crosswind runway was head on and used only about 20 metres.
Very hospitable hosts and the skaap potjie was worth the trip alone. Got our money’s worth at the pub with good mates and stayed over with some crazy new ones.
The predicted early rain and mist turned into sunshine but only managed an extended circuit around Majuba Mountain before low clouds forced us back to the field for breakfast.
Seemed I was the only trike to fly in but typically, the weather kept most okes in Joburg including some display pilots but the event was enjoyable.
Left at 15h00 for my one hour flight which turned into nearly three hours. Local weather patterns every 10 miles had me skirting around serious rain till eventually finding Asterix’s plaas strip for cover. After waiting for the black lightening filled blanket to blow over my strip, slotted in just behind some ugly rain.
Thanks to several buddies for continuous weather updates, offer from Asterix to arrange assistance and several buddies to come and fetch me.
Was a jol.
Will try upload pics and my return trip.
