The new tarred runway at Rhino Park is in its final stages . vhpy
Unfortunately the cost exceeded budget by 100 %
Good and bad news is that the flight schools will pay a hourly levy for runway maintenance/ landing fees. ##
The folks who fly inn for breakfast will get a discount on landing fees . The folks who fly in for touch and goes will unforunately be charged a landing fee as at Wonderboom. (^^) Should you fly in for repairs / Maintenance you will be charged a landing fee . ($$)
Die wet van Transvaal , @#$ en betaal , (**)
The runway has cost in excess of 8 million up to date , but it still need some work - landing lights , drain covers , some smoothing of the surface and a genereal cleanup and then ist show time . (^^) (^^) (^^)
watch tis space for official opening date puff puff puff

Ja Manne, as die gierigheid inskop, dan gaan dit so......

This is Sad Sad news! This means that we will simly fly somewhere else for breakfast. Springs does not charge landing fees and we have Eastwoods around the corner with a menu to make any pilot happy. And for the really picky pilots we have two perfectly maintained grass strips and a smooth long tar strip. Should this not be enough you can also try Circus, they serve one mean breakfast. Then there is also Aeroden, Microland and Kitty Hawk all serving breakfast with NO landing fees. This sadly means Rhino park has seen the Manne van Staal for the last time.

Dit kos geld om die runway te onderhou-microlights doen egter nie skade aan die runway nie-ek hoop hulle vra minder of niks vir microlight landings.
Kom land maar hier in Potties-for free.

Like anything else in life it is all about choices.

I suppose they have to fund the runway from somewhere and lets not judge before the fee structure is known. Maybe it is something negligible.

At least you have the choice to land at Rhino Park and pay the fees or to go elsewhere. If I lend my ears out to the roomers in the media there is something called "take-off" tax that will be applicable to all aircraft waiting for us just beyond the horizon.....

This is exactly the problem. If we have to start paying for every single thing we do in the air or ground flying will be too expensive for the average person. You can say what you like but this is the reason for the slow death of microlighting. If you dont draw a personal line in the sand and stand by your opinion you are contributing to the increasing cost of microlighting and therefore its slow death. The only reason microlighting become popular was because of low cost involved but now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and starting to charge fees. If you dont stop the trend you WILL have to pay for every little thing in the very near future and then you will not have the options anymore.

Sadly landing fees will not cover their costs. They should rather look to hangar sales, fuel sales (maybe even a MOGAS pump) and AMO;s etc to cover these costs. It is IMHO a sunk cost and one which they must try to adsorb into their structure. Sadly once you start charging you have to compete with the big boys and the airfield looses it's charm. Many of the locals will move (like they did when they originally went to Rhino) and it will become a BIG airport with management politics and BS....

I wish them best of luck. Always nice to see improvements at Runways but charging R50 a landing will not pay for the R2Bar runway in million years....

So, will it be cheaper to land there when you are a smoker or a non smoker?

I do aggree that landing fees will not cover the cost of the runway even over a few years depending on what they organize there on weekends to attract plenty of visitors.

How about topless girls washing trikes or serving beer? How many trikes will land there on a weekend? Will pay R200 landing fees for that

Any idea how much landing fees will bring in over a weekend approx....without the girls? Just wondering?
