Microlighters

Anyone on here up to date on fire arms laws and hunting reg's? I have a couple fire arms but have inherrited a couple more from Gramps which would put me over the 4 limit. Are there any options or must these be destroyed/sold? They have little value other than sentimental... and it would be lekker to teach my laaities to shoot with the same rile I did in 1976 for eg... and the 303 been in family since 1941.

Any help would be appreciated. I understand that becomming a dedicated hunter ( ) may be option?

Jip Dedicated hunter or Professional hunter is the only way to go.

I stand corrected but DH you apply and then need to attend a couple of the “shoots” or meetings a year.

The PH route is a lot more intense as you need to do the coarse and then take out clients over a 3 year period or else your permit is cancelled.
There is also a minimum amount days you need to spend hunting with the clients over that period, and by clients it must be overseas hunters so taking your “boetie to skiet a bok” doesn’t qualify

One of my dad’s friends is also a real hunting maniac and collector so it was a lot better for him to buy a gun shop and take over the licence.

Do the "dedicated hunter" thing. You join an accredited hunters association and apply for dedicated hunters status. They will expect you to write a competancy test (50% pass minimum) and do a practical shooting test (three shots in the heart/lung area of an animal target) and you get the certificate. You are then expected to do three hunting related activities a year to prove that you are dedicated. these could be to attend meetings, take part in shooting days at the association or supply proof of hunting during the year. As long as you do that and remain a paid up member of the organisation, you remain a dedicated hunter. A benifit of all this is that the association will assist you to sort your firarms and put pressure in the right places to get your licence applications proccessed. It took about seven months for me to get licences for new firearms and some of the guys have managed to get them in as little as a month.
