Alarm system for my hanger

Postby falconp1 » Fri Jan 28, 2011 12:29 pm

I am looking at installing an alarm system in my hanger. It has to be one that notifies my via cell phone. I was hopping for something simple. Something that i can install myself (or not). Not to expensive . I would appreciate any suggestions, advice and comments.

This SMS and MMS you with motion, good quality,
you only need to respond yourself.
With this I saw who stole fuel out of my Windlass.

I was lucky enough to be given one of these as a birthday present. Works well.

My hangar neighbour has a motion detector connected to tear gas - the guys know that even with armed response, they have a couple of minute window in which to steal something, but this is not the case with tear gas ##

I have gone into the tear gas angle. To me it is the best, But expensive. We were told by the police that signs should be visible informing the affirmative shoppers of the danger. Reason being, If the Sh#$t happens to be very asthmatic and pegs, there will not be a problem for the occupant.

Try this link:

I think this might be of use to a hangar owner that wants to be warned and get some evidence.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys. The tear gas system sounds interesting. Vernon did they specify if the signs should be on the inside or the outside of the hanger. If i may ask. What did that setup cost and who did it for you.

The signs should be outside, but use a material that fades in a day or two.
We did not go that route in the end. We relocated to anothe private strip in Munster.
A ball park figure, would have been about 18000.00 for the five hangars. We would have installed it ourselves, with advice from a friend who has a security company There is a possibility that we might go back, when once (safety) conditions inprove.

We had a huge problem a couple years back. We installed alarms, SMS alerts etc. Turns out it was bored vandals looking for jollies. We finally solved the problem by installing an old alarm, some 400hps spots and the key element 12v red flashers. We have not had incident in 2 years and it costs R100 a month for the "armed resp" guys to drive past there every now and again (when I purposefully set of the alarm)

Baddies don't like light and noise.

the "alarm" makes a huge chweet chweet when we turn it on and Chweet when we turn it off. We have armed responce signs and most NB is the 12v flashers which WARN that the alarms are active. Proof in the pudding. Right next to the hangars is the old terminal building. Since we have installed the "system" they have cleaned out the terminal building. Stolen pipes out the walls, electrical cables out of the walls, roof sheets, geyser, doors windows etc and we have not had 1 incident. They are there but just leave us alone?

Maybe it just about making a noise and being seen to "patrol".

Good luck....

PS
We had the guys who broke in first time on camera and cops just laughed. Not that they not interested, but they have "real" cases to deal with and someone scratching my aeries windows and bending the door were not high priorities, although had the fire they made on the wing got any bigger they would have been headline news....
