A new issue of the Southern Africa Navidata database has been uploaded to www.MGLAvionics.co.za (click on "Navidata files maintained by MGL Avionics on the left button bar).
This is free, open data provided by MGL. Airfields(from tiny microlight fields to the biggest airports), navigation beacons (VOR etc), reporting/intersection points and airspaces.
Details: This update is the result of several weeks worth of work going through every airfield and airport in Southern Africa using the new MGL Central application with Google Earth support. We identified every possible runway and now provide exact geographic coordiates for each threshold (Exact to no more than +/-2 meters error on average). We have also updated all frequencies based on latest known and published data.
Please note that you can easily import this data into the free MGL Central Flight Planning and database application.
MGL EFIS equiped aircraft can use this data for precision, GPS guided approaches to any of the runways in the database that are marked as "GLS", including accurate, GPS based localizer and glideslope simulations.
(Who says a trike can't do ILS ?)
Enjoy !
