A friend of mine who is an underwater photographer for National Geographic has just arrived in Cape Town for a shoot on Southern Right & Humpback whales. It is late in the season and many of the whales have already left for their long migration down south. We have what is probably the only permit out there to dive with and photograph the whales, but there is a fairly strict time limit and finding the whales will definitely be the hard part. The permit covers the coast from Witsands at the Breede River mouth down to Cape Town and up again as far as Saldahna Bay.
If this SE beast of a wind ever stops, and if you happen to be flying along the coast at any stage, and if you spot a whale of any description then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could you either post the details of the location with an estimate of how far offshore the animal was and the date and time of the sighting here on the forum, or sms me on 082 6599001. I am a student gyro pilot flying out of Fisantekraal and don't know many of the folks in the aviation community, but any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Jean.

Dude, you're in luck! Its the holiday season and I'm sure you will not have any trouble finding a "whale" or two on the beach!
Hope your mate gets some shots of the real thing though!!
