Kloot Piloot and myself are planning a Spot Landing Competition at Brits Airfield on the 13th of November starting at 07h30 till 13h30.

Entrance Fee: R100 per pilot

AVGAS is available at a good price. Will have to find out about MOGAS, but no guarantee

The two classes competing will be for the Trikes in one and the Bantams / /Thunderbirds (or similar types) in the other. Due to limited time, we can only accommodate a maximum of 24 aircraft (12 in each class)

So far we have 8 Bantams indicating that they will participate. We need another 4 Thunderbirds or other similar types
There are 11 places open for the Trikes as Kloot Piloot will be taking one slot.

Sorry no Gyros!

Breakfast will be served as well as Boerwors rolls during the course of the day. Brits Flying Club has a well stocked Bar so there will be enough refreshments available for all.

The event will be more or less as follows:

Pilots and crew / family arrive from 06h00
Breakfast from 06h30 till 07h00
Briefing at 07h00 - 07h15
First group of 4 aircraft airborne 07h30
All groups complete 6 landings in total divided in two time slots
Anticipated completion by 13h30
Prize Giving at 14h00 - latest

Each pilot will do three landings (1 x power with flaps, 1 x Power with no flaps, 1 x over obstacle near the Bingo Box).

The Bingo Box is a painted demarcated area on the runway (we can use 02 or 20) depending on the winds that day, that each pilot aims to touch down on or as close as possible. Land in front or short of the Bingo Box and penalty points get deducted. The pilot in each class with the closest score to zero wins.

There will be certificates for all. Medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and each class pilot will receive a nice floating trophy as overall winner

Due to the admin and planning involved (certificates to be printed, catering etc.) if you really want to participate and you give your name, aircraft type and registration on this forum, PLEASE!! commit to come and attend and don't cop out at the end

Unfortunately it's on a first come first serve basis - so spread the news and the first 11 trikers who's names and details appear in random order will be taken. The same applies to the 4 slots open in the Bantam / Thunderbird category

(Those that don't know, Kloot Piloot is a Committe Member at Brits Flying Club and it is thanks to him that we can get this venue )

All pilots North of the Magalies take note:

It sounds like we will be having a true aviation day on 13 November !

Aeroden is hosting the highly recommended S&R presentation by Santjie White (Heksie) !

Earlier the same day Brits will host a limited Precision landing Competition exclusively for Microlights. We are 10 minute's flying from Aeroden.

SAPFA (Mary de Klerk and Frank Eckard) have a SAPFA mini rally from Brits later the same day.

I will be coordinating with Mary to have the 2 events streamlined. They indicated that they will be interested to do the precision landing as well when they return from their circuit, which will be after we are done.

FABS (Brits) is as accomodating to microlighters as it is to blik-aeries. So do not feel intimidated to join us.

It will be a awesome and constructive day to come and hone skills at Brits and afterwards hone on survival techniques with Santjie's presentation at the 'Den.

We have 4 trikes entered. Only 8 spaces left !

Rosslyn, Aviators and Rustenburg we await your entries xxx

I received a PM with questions and will (quickly) try to explain. However it will be done better at the pilots briefing on the day of the event.

The aim of Pecision landing is to award the pilot who can consistintly land within 10 meters of where he wanted / should have landed with the 1st prize. Brits has an airfield termed big in GA terms. We have marked a section on the runway with road marking paint which is called the "box". In the middle of the box is a "bingo line". Landing on the bingo line is similar to landing on the spot you chose when your donkey (RV4ker's words) died. You get penalties for over-shooting, yet BIG penalties for under-shooting.

Aim of the competition ? Prove that you can land the plane on that area you selected when the donkey said cheers, consistently ! Not once, but 6 times in a row. It is huge entertainment value, but it might scare the sh@t out of you. Especially when you thought you can do landings on that forced spot. That is why I said above it is fun to this under controlled conditions. EMR etc on hand. vhpy

The one reason the comp is done in 2 sessions on the same day is to test how you adapt to conditions at 08H00 compared to 10h00. Trikers, sounds familiar ? Took off and all was good, but when I wanted to land it was K@K. Enter this comp tomorrow. You WILL walk away a better pilot, and you will make Santjie White stress less.

Scary, NO ! It is vital learning in a fun environment.

So please join. Continue where your instructor left off.

There is no end to the learning of fying.

Will look something like this. Below is what they use for the World landing champs. May not look exactly the same, but you get the idea. Land short of long and you "loose" points. They guys who are pro at this get less than 20 penalties for 4 landings. I like to play poker and see their 40 and raise them 200 (often per landing      )

I can only echo what Roel has said. It a great learning experience (especially that obsticle clearance landing), but it also PLENTY of fun. Do yourself a favour and check it out.... We all laugh at each other. Even the oukes who know what they are doing (Protea colours) get it wrong sometimes and we never let them forget it.... It all part of what we used to call hanagr talk.... (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^)

I am hoping to make the runway more consistently, never mind the "BOX" ## ## ## ##

Sorry people, but we will have to move the event on to the 4th of December.

SMS'd Roel (Kloot Piloot) this morning and due to unforeseen commitments some of the guys cannot make the 13th of November. (Some of the "Bantam Manne" are tied up with flying the big Airways Aeries over the weekend of the 13th, others have booked in Kruger  , and therefore cannot change their schedules)

I hope this will work for all as the balance of weekends left are pretty tight and Brits Airfield is pretty booked up

Sorry again for the inconvenience

Ag nee Nico! Sorry ou maat...kamp 'n ander naweek man

Hi Blue Max

We will still hold the competition at Brits for the Trikers and Bantams as well on the 4th of December. Aeroden does net lend itself well to a Spot landing competition due to touch and go's one has to do during the competition. Brits is far better for this as there are demarcated lines, so please do come the 4th of December.

Nico,

Hope to see you guys on the 4th of December and those that can for the SA Champs the 27th of November at Brits

Just remember the Trike / Bantam competition was to get, is still to get, something of this nature going so that we can have it on a yearly basis just for the Trikers and Bantam type aircraft - no offence against gyros (cause they will win hands down), but just something unique for us lot

Safe Flying!
