SEARCH AND RESCUE - In Case of Emergency

Postby Morph » Wed Sep 29, 2010 8:45 am

In the case of any aviation emergency call Search and Rescue immediately

New preferred PRIMARY REPORTING NUMBER
SAR Duty standby - 0635054164
SAR Standby 2 - 0635055485
ARCC Chief - Santjie White 082 823 8493 (Heksie on this forum)
Central number: 011 928 6454 / 5

MODERATOR MESSAGE : Details updated 21-04-2016

You can phone them 24 hours a day

Alternatively, talk to any of the local ATC's via radio, or call an emergency on 121.5Mhz

This service costs nothing to you, and they can immediately mobilize everything they need to save the victims lives, or bring them back to their families.

Thanks John Boucher for the idea. I have made this available from any of the forums, and it will always stay on top.

One thing you must realise, for each of us to try and motivate the police, the army, medical services, planes, whatever is near to impossible

Santjie does this in minutes. She has all these resources at her fingertips

When you are planning a long flight, do lodge a flight plan on https://file2fly.atns.co.za/aes/login.jsp.

Before takeoff activate the flight plan by calling the nearest tower, and deactivate it on landing. This will ensure an automatic S&R if you don't arrive

Otherwise call the numbers above, to manually activate the S&R
Heksie wrote: As far as neighbouring countries are concerned they have their own ARCCs with their own resources. We cannot affect a SAR in their countries but we have bi/multilateral agreements in place which means if they cannot search or rescue a request can be forwarded via the Minister's office for assistance. We do however stay in close contact with them.

As soon as the ARCC becomes aware of an issue in foreign countries we do notify Foreign Affairs immediately to speed up the process.

In case of emergency, we can seek help through emergency services. Search and rescue are part of the training on dealing emergency cases. It would be safer and for security purposes, we should be aware how to call up help.

Take a look at African Pilot February edition, excellent pics of the SAAF Oryx and the Mountain Club. I am proud to see the comms equipment made by Air Magic in use by the volunteers and sponsored by Vodacom !

They are wearing the helmet mounted headsets and the 4022 communication centre in a harness on the chest. They will be at Tedderfield.
Centrifugal force in pure Physics does not exist, however this does not apply to Taxi drivers..

In SA we have the MRCC which is basically maritime SAR and the ARCC which is the aviation side. The ARCC is manned at FAOR ATC centre headed by Santjie. If someone is missing phone the ARCC or alternatively phone your nearest ATC center and they will take your details and get the ARCC to call you for the required info. It is a 24 hour service. Hope this helps
